Gus in diesel?

A couple of friends of mine are in the heavy equipment business. They both drive pickups with diesel engines (to get back and forth to their other diesel gear). Both claim they run a small amount of regular gas through their engines every year, on purpose, to clean them out. About 2-5 gallons in a tank, twice a year, seems to do the job.

 

I am very tempted to folllow their suggestions. Anyone out there doing that with their dmax?

Bad idea!

With a diesel, the fuel lubricates the fuel pump and the injectors and because gas has no lubricating properties, it will cause excessive wear on the components. I just finished covering fuel systems in my heavy duty mechanics course so that is the latest info that is out there.

You can buy proper fuel system claeners for diesel engines that will not do any damage.

Terrible idea, although most likely to be tolerated without damage. In reality, the only cleaning we need to do is change our fuel filters every 12-15k miles, and our oil when necessary. Please don't do it.
