OK guys I got a question I know it has been aasked before but I want to be sure for mu application this will work . I have a 06 sierra crew z71 3.42 rear and wanting to swap to a to 05 6.0 max. Is this a direct swap or will i need different mounting brackets for the accessories and such?

The engine probably mounts the same way but you have a different problem. Your 4L60E transmission is already maxed out with the 5.3 V8. It will not handle all the torque the 6.0 V Max engine develops for too long. That is why V Max trucks get a beefier 4L70E(?) transmission. I also am not sure about the rear end gear size. V Max gears may be bigger. Also, your gear ratio is not optimal for maximum performance. 2WD V Max trucks come standard with 3.73 gears, 4WD versions with 4.10s.

Not to criticize, but seems kind of crazy to be wanting to swap out a new 5.3L for the 45 more HP you would get out of the 6.0L vortec max.

If you're really power hungry why not go for a supercharger? You would probably still have to beef up the tranny and perhaps swap out the gears, but this would probably be cheaper, easier, and would give you more HP than the engine swap.

4L80E

You can get both engine and transmission in this ebay auction, but you'd probably have to have a few odds and ends to complete the swap. I think I'd spring for a supercharger and maybe swap the transmission for a 4L80E. You could sell the 4L60E and offset the cost.

I agree. Swapping motors for 40 hp isnt worth it. You can get 110+ more hp with a blower or turbo. Much easier too.

Remember, the concept is cubic inches per mile, think about it. Changeing gears which is reasonable doable can have a very similar effect to installing a larger motor.

I would go with 4.10s .

The 4L60E is not maxed out with the 5.3L. My '04 GTO comes with the same tranny, and it makes 350HP, and 365TQ. The rear end is a 3.46. People also mod the heck out of the LS1s and don't do anything to the tranny except maybe add a bigger cooler.

Also, I would go with either a supercharger, or an STS turbo kit.

Ive read on a few sites they are rated to handle 370 ftlbs from the factory. Oh well, if it blows just rebuild it like a brick s**t house and get a nice aftermarket torque converter installed.

If you really want to drop a 6L in there why not an LS6 it has great potential with an agressive cam and tune you could get 450hp easy.

Otherwise, yeah it would be cheaper to get a turbo. :banghead:

It's the extra torque that you'll feel more than the added HP.

I used to have a 3/4 Ton Suburban with a 6.0L engine and we test-drove a couple nearly identical 5.3L half-ton Suburbans or two before we bought it. There's just simply no comprison between the two. HP alone doesn't tell the story -- the biggest difference is due to the extra torque.

It's true that you can get extra torque to the wheels by changing the gearing. The 5.3L Crew Cab I just got feels way more powerful with its 3.73 rear end than the other identical trucks on the lot did with 3.23 rear axles. In fact, I wouldn't EVER consider the 3.23 axle / 5.3L combination after having driven the same truck with the more powerful 3.73 axle ratio. I must say that the 3.73 axle / 5.3L combination on this crew cab feels more powerful than the 6.0L engine did on the Suburban -- probably because the Suburban was neearly 1,000 Lbs heavier.

If you don't need to go 100 MPH, you can trade some engine RPMs for some extra torque to the wheels. It'll change the way your truck feels better than any performance upgrade you can do, and maybe even put it in the same ballpark as it would have been with the 6.0L engine swap.

Of course a half-ton truck with a 6.0L engine AND 4.10 or axle ratio would be mind numbingly fast. Now THAT would be fun to try!

A supercharger or turbo will also give a large torgue increase, but I agree with the gearing. If I were to go as nuts as installing a blower or turbo I would want the 4.10 gears. I'd also have the tranny beefed up (shift kit, torque converter, etc.). This might be enough to keep the 4L60E.

I thought the 1/2 ton vortec max package was exactly that, a 345 HP 6.0L with 4.10 gears.

Yea the Max pacakge is the 345 hp 6.0l with a 4.10's by defualt unless you order with 3.73.

My only thing is the 5.3 with the crews weight just bogs like hell on small hills not even towing.

So lets look at gearing, i'd have to swap out the front and the back correct? in a 4x4.

Would computer change be there too? or can a handheld do it for me?

I already have a zoomers cat back, volant intake and a diablo sport. It have more emuph.. but still hills and passing seems all noise and no go.

OK read up where i will have to change both front and back if I go with 3.73's can i get a dealer to change the computer since it is a factory gear ?

Can anyone pointin the right direction to get a set of gears?
