4wd switch not working

Recommended Posts

My 99 Yukon is stuck in 4 wheel drive. I'm assuming it's the actuator but I need to know if there is something that will tell me for sure.

When I hit the button to take it out of 4wd I can here the actuator trying to do something but the light will just blink and than go back into 4wd or auto 4wd.

Anyone have any advise?

If you haven't had this fixed yet... I had the same problem not going into 4x on my little Blazer, the problem was a $40 vacuum modulator that was located under the battery.

My 06 GMC Sierra, with 528 miles on it would not get out of 2wd. Only flashing lights on the switch. After 2 days at the dealership, and replacement of the encoder motor, it turned out to be loose connections on the fuse block!

There is a common problem with the pushbutton assembly on the dash, the solder joints for the switch were cold soldered and tend to crack and make very poor connection. I fixed this on my buddy's truck with a quick reheat and reflow of solder. If you feel confident enough to pull the switch apart and resolder it this might work, or I think a new switch from GM is around $50 or $60 dollars but you may eventually have the same problem.
