Rearview mirror tempature display

I was wondering if on the 1999 NBS silverado's if the rearview mirror had the capability to show tempature?

 

When you start the truck and it turns on it has the C and F on the little screen but it only shows the direction.

 

If it cant be done the way its setup now, what would i have to do to make it work, replace it?

 

Any help would be great.

You should be able to do it. You would need to see if the harness in the headliner is setup for the temp and then add the litte sensor behind the grill.

Where would i get a temp sensor for my 99?

The dealer would probably have a sensor. I'm not sure of the pricing for one from a '99, but one from my 06 was about $20.

 

Also, I could be way off, but I'm pretty sure that you will need to replace the mirror. From what I understand, there were two types of mirrors, one that just displays the compass, and one that displays the compass and temperature. Both have the same display, which would explain why you can see the C & F, but the compass only mirror does not have the internal electronics to display the temperature.

Does anyone know if it is possible to add a tempature sensor or do i have to replace the entire mirror?

You will need to replace the mirror itself and add and run a harness and temp. sensor,I did this to my '99 and It wasn't hard at all.
