Creaking door xtra cab - my 2 cents

The drivers door of my truck started creaking a few weeks ago and it was driving me crazy. Anyhow I think I finally solved the problem today. I did a search for creaking doors and got a few ideas from posts on this forum, I have tried tightening and loosening the door latches to no avail, wd40ing everything, today I tried a silicone spray, removed all the rubber trim etc, sprayed every conceivable surface to no effect. So I thought, lets try to solve the problem logically. First if I sprayed everything in sight with lubricant and its still creaking there was something that I had to have missed, the first task was to try to pinpoint where the creak was coming from, and that would narrow down the options of how to treat it. I discovered that my door only creaks in a up and down movement and that the creak was coming from about the middle of the door. Now the creak didn't sound like metal on metal, or a rubber on dry rubber noise, it was more of a plastic on plastic sound. So I started looking for 2 pieces of plastic that could be rubbing on each other in an up and down motion in about the middle of the 2 doors. Voila! I noticed that on the xtra cab door there is a little plastic plunger that depresses when the drivers door is shut, it rubs on a plastic pad thats on the inside of the drivers door jamb. It's underneath the plastic handle and latch so I hadn't really noticed it before and it hadn't been hit with any of the silicone spray I had been using, I gave it a good shot of silicone spray on presto! no more creaks! Now mind you I have only driven about 3 blocks but the creak is gone so far, if it comes back I think I'll try taping the plunger in so that it doesn't contact the drivers door at all. Just thought I'd post this since when I searched the forum I found quite a few posts about the problem of creaking doors. Just something that you can try if you notice your door creaking.

If you tape that dilly down you won't be able to open the extended cab door. It holds the extended cab door latched (when the regular door is closed) regardless of some one pulling the interior door handle for the rear door.

That's good to know, maybe I'll try putting the tape where it contacts the plastic on the drivers door or something if I need to tape it at all.
