Lowering a 4WD?

It's 6 years old now and I think it's time for a facelift for my '01 Tahoe. I considered putting a lift on it but with a little girl and a wife that's only 5'1 it would make it difficult for them to get in. So I'm thinking about hot rodding it. I don't want to slam it to the point that it's impractical, or even at all, but once I get some new wheels/tires on it may need just a few inches to give it a mean stance and lower the center of gravity.

Years ago (early 90s) it was said that lowering a 4WD was a no-no because it threw everything out of whack, but I don't know if that was more fact than rumor. I'm wondering if there are any potential problems with it?

Dropped my 06 silverado 2 in the front and 4 in the rear. Everything works just fine. It's cheap too. Mine had a 2" block in the back from the factory. Took it out first to leval it out. Then found some 20's so I wanted to go a little more and runstreet tires. So I put 2" shackles on the back and loosened up the torsion key for the 2" in front. Got it lined up and never looked back. You should have seen the people I drive around in the last snow. It sits 1/2" lower than an SS silverado. So it's not drastick, but noticable. Good luck
