off the line delay

Every now and then i have a slow pull off the line, i notice this the other day when i was leaving the shop and one of the mechanics had a 06 suburban and got the jump on me. I dont get it i also notice this if im at a roll like at 20-maybe35 if i stomp on it, the truck hesatates for a minute then is driving like a bat out of hell...almost like its driving in 3rd for a second before it decides to drop into second. I have a programer and some other cool stuff but this has been happening for a while so what do you all think

My YukonXL does the same, or sounds like something similair.

I'm told it's the torque management.

It sound like it is either Torque Management or the old "sometimes it starts out in second from stop" issue. I really noticed TM during the 1-2 shift. A big bog for about a second after the shift and then it kicks in. I noticed a HUGE improvement when I put a custom tune in with no TM.

TM is there to reduce abuse on the drivetrain and prevent breakage. Once I had my trans built up, I pulled the TM in the tune and I haven't broken anything in 50K since the tune.

yeah ill have to do that, honestly when im spraying the truck never had a problem i think the nitrous will kinda help kick it in the but. Kinda crazy though ive had the truck reprogramed at the shop and after the trany update we noticed a tcc soleniod wich was replaced. I then put back my hypertech wich by the way had to be sent out to get itself reaquainted with the new program..(stupid hypertech) but i still have this issue. And have you ever noticed while going around a corner from a stop the truck will tear up tires for the whole lenth of what seems like 1st then it drops like too...about 2200 rpm's which does absolutly nothing then drops down to 2nd agin. I guesss that imadiat drop is 3rd gear or that torqe mgnt prog.

I believe if you are spraying, the TM kicks in a lot more. It is only there to protect the drivetrain from abuse. When I had the trans built up before the tune, TM was a lot more noticeable. Almost like the computer knows you have HP adders and kicks in TM more heavily.

When I experienced it in the 1-2 shift, it would rev well, then shift and felt like a total bog for about 1 second then you can feel the power kick in. Almost felt like a gear change. This was definitely TM in my case.

thanks dude i belive thats exactly what it is ill check it out. I plan on taking my tune off the truck for right now and see if that changes things. But looks like i need a better tune maybe a nelson, westers, or diablo sport.

If I'm understanding correctly, I think I had that problem...my truck would slightly hesitate, or id have to really get into it to get it to go...but since I put my magnaflow exhaust on, it hasnt done that and it really seems to get up and go. I dont know the whole scientific stuff on the engine vs the exhaust ratio of the dangle thingie majigger so maybe someone can chime in. I just know I dont have the hesitation I used to before I put this exhaust on. Dont know if its the same thing you are dealing with or not.

k guys i know im late on replying back but wanted to let you know i did do a couple of things since last time i was on here. I took the tunning out for a day or 2, just plain told the hypertech to return the truck to stock settings. This sucked realy bad the truck has slopy shifts and then still cuts off at like 98 agin but i knew this was going to hapen...the idea was to see if [TM] kicked in as much i didnt realy notice too much of a kick in but also bad response compared to the programmer on. Then i found a factory tune that hypertech told me was on my programer but i couldnt find the option to select it. I put that into affect and then just made the trans stiffin up on shifts, changed the shift points, engine rev limit, and top speed limiter. This helped my problem with the slopyness in the trans but the truck still falls flat on its face out of a u-turn or while spinning tires. I havent sprayed it yet , its winter time here in maryland i dont want to have a full tank for no reason.

thanks for listening guys

If im not mistaken, don't these trucks have restrictor plates from factory? I mean my truck is a 05 Sierra and it had one on that I replaced like 20k miles ago. My brother has a 06 Silverado withe the 5.3L HO and he has a restrictor plate too. My truck picked up a lot of acceleration when removing the restrictor. Check in your throttle body and flip up the butterfly valve. My old one had a dome on it to restrict air flow. When I asked GM about it they said that the plate was installed because customers were complaining of the abruptness of the torque. So the put a restrictor plate on.

Ztrane,

Can you tell us exactly where this Restrictor Plate is? Inside the Throttle body, behind the Butterfly?

When you state a Dome, where would this be located on the butterfly or behind the butterfly?

I am very interested in this, as I would love to remove it if it is there on my 03 Suburban.

Thanks,

Bryan

because i always am in the search to make things better or blow the hard earned american dollor how about using these trotle bodies. there 80mm thats got to help but still dont think thats the problem

However i did check out diablo sports website and the preditor seems like a bad ass programer i can attatch it to the computer and do online diag. as well as get rid of those pesky engin lights. It lets you block certin codes. but want to know is this better than a custom like westers, nelson, or whatever the othe one is....lol

i love my diablo sport tuner. i like that i can put my stock tune back on the pcm.

years ago i had a chip that went bad on another truck and left me broke down 250 miles from home. pulled the chip and i was on my way.

Me too..... I would be interested in knowing how to remove this from the HD.

Its not just the torque managment but also the stupid electronic throttle that GM is putting in just about everything now. Make sure that if you are messing around with the throttle body unit that you dont move the throttle plate because it is very fragile. I made that mistake and had to get a new one. It broke somewhere inside the motor control.

Any of the tuners, Westers, nelson, pcmforless etc, can remove the TM and the delay that's programmed into the PCM, makes for a much more driveable vehicle.

    • Thanks @newdude, guess I'll keep looking.  Test driving so many trucks that have obvious things broken, I'm thinking "if they couldn't even be bothered to fix the power seat," what else is broken".   Just drove a 2021 where the power seat motor was grinding/binding and wouldn't do anything but make a terrible sound.   An owner that puts dents on the bumper, doesn't fix a seat motor, and had spotty service intervals (along with missing major services) doesn't give me the best of confidence.   Amazed at the number of people that will finance a $60k+ truck, run it into the ground, then trade with a loan balance (every single one had "loan/lien reported" on the CARFAX at the last year of registration).
    • Not true! I have been runing them since 2006 F250! suspension component that works as a sway bar, a traction bar, and a helper spring points directly to the RoadActive Suspension (RAS) kit. Works as a sway bar, a traction bar, and a helper spring.
    • Here's a starter kit:    CC Jensen, a Danish oil testing Concern gives us the following guidelines:   ISO 14/12/10 Very Clean Oil ISO 16/14/11 Clean Oil ISO 17/15/12 Lightly Contaminated ISO 19/17/14 New Oil ISO 22/20/17 Very Contaminated and not suitable for any service.   In addition CC Jensen gives a table showing how engine life is increased by cleaning up the oil. For example cleaning the oil from 19/17/14 to 13/11/8 will extend motor life by a factor of 6X.   But even cleaning it two “Life Extension Classes” will double motor life. So perhaps giving those classes would be useful:   21/19/16 20/18/15 19/17/14 18/16/13 17/15/12 16/14/11 15/13/10 14/12/9 13/11/8   *************************************   https://testoil.com/program-management/setting-iso-cleanliness-targets/   Third paragraph from the bottom will give a starting point.    Your next question should be, okay 10um at what Beta ratio and the answer is in the graph Beta 75.   Then the next question is what is your chosen filters profile? (Purolator PL series below) The red dot is Beta 75. This was the information I obtained from MANN a few years ago. So the best filters, Purolator One, AMSOIL EA, FRAM Ultra, Royal Purple, Bosch Premium should get a doubling engine life over filters like Purolator L, any service filter from any quick lube, WIX, NAPA, STP, Mobil 1, Purolator BOSS.    And as noted by CC Jensen a 2-5 micron @ Beta 200 bypass system has the capability of a six fold improvement. AMSOIL has such a system as does Donaldson.       Now having said all that testing is the touchstone. Test the oil NEW and test it with your chosen filter. Then test over milage. Do the work, get the result. But understand this in NOT absolute BECAUSE this is one factor in isolation.   Example:    A valve spring supplier can state that with cam X and a valve train of Y grams the valves will not float to 7K rpm. is that true if the builder choose a system 20 grams over limit? Common sense must be used and limits understood.
    • This doesn't look like a GM truck. Not needed on a HD truck
    • It varies a ton around me. Some places are still at $5.00 or higher and others are way down into the $4's.   Offroad diesel was $4.02 at the one station I passed today.
