Open up the air filter enclosure

I'm at the puter, not beside the truck (2002 Sierra 2500HD dmax) so I can't be sure how to get at the air filter. It looked, last time I checked, like all I do is unscrew the top in 2 or 4 places and lift the lid?

Yesterday, I had the truck maintained at a speedy lube place. Routine oil change, lube, etc. Nothing special. When they opened up the air cleaner compartment, inside they found a hunk of yellow home ceiling insulation fiberglass and about a half cup of acorn shells! I can understand the acorns. We live in an oak forest and we're inundated by oaks, acorns, and mice! Our cat loves the place. But for the life of me I can't imagine where the insulation came from! Or how it got onto the top of the air filter inside the enclosure! On a quick glance, it appeared more like a single piece about the size of a dinner plate, not a gob made up of many, many mouse-bite-sized pieces stuck together! But that's all it could possibly be!

There was no sign at all that it had come from the underside of the truck hood. So as soon as I got home, I crawled under my trailer, which is parked outdoors right next to the truck, to see if it had come from under one of the tanks! Our trailer's tanks are all insulated with the same sort of stuff I found inside the air filter compartment. The covering beneath the fresh water tank is loose in places and I was worried some of the insulation might be accessible to the critters in the yard. But no, that isn't it either! There is absolutely no sign at all of anything on the ground beneath the trailer, so the trailer is ok! Guess it was the guy who turns off the light in the frigde!

Don't look now but Mr. field mouse may have taken up refuge in there. Mice can compress their skeleton structure and crawl in anywhere there is a nice dry warm place to live.
