need help replacing steering wheel controls

my buddy just picked up a '04 3500 and his volume button light is burned out ont the steering wheel controls. Do you have to pull the airbag in order to take that button off?

 

if someone has a link to a writeup on this that would be great, i had no luck searching for it. thanks
