AWD front end 'resistance' and noise

I have an "02 Silverado and when I push the AWD button or use the 4HI button I get some resistance noise from the front end, especially when turning. It's more than just the expected resistance you get when using 4WD. It's like there's a bad U-Joint or bearing or something. Any ideas?

the resistance is normal, the noise is not normal.

If youre doing that on dry pavement, you arent supposed to be! It could be a U joint otherwise.
