Riddle me this

I think most of the exterior of my 2002 3500 is plastic.  Have already crunhed one rear quarter panal and to quote from the old "Dukes of Hazard" the sound of the quarter cracking, from a 1-2 mph parking lot bump up, would have fit right in with Sheriff Roscoe's "oh what a horrendous crash that was!"  On the positive side, my body shop prepainted the replacement fender so my truck was literally in and out of the shop in one day.  Look on the bright side, can't rust?!?

I saw the new ones for my truck when they got them.  They came from GM black.  Probably some type of rust protection, but I believe that the truck is pretty much all steel, albeit it's very thin steel that dents easily.

On a side note, where you just watching batman or something?  The joker was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw "Riddle me this"

No, No Batman here. Every other thing on the Cartoon Network. Kids are off for a week (Easter). Guess who got to stay home and watch them :)

I won't open up the whole steel thing, but I do agree its too thin. Don't look at it wrong..Ooops theres a dent

I know the tailgate is made out of some thin thin tin.    I've already damaged mine twice.  Once was pretty justifiable, but the other was just a bump against a box and it mashed up.  Ohh well.  Guess they had to lighten em up somewhere.

Keep in mind, the new optional boxes on GM trucks are that "Pro-Tec" composite material, but not the fenders.

Steel is steel no matter how thin it may appear to be.  If it were any thicker, my truck would top the scales at 7,000lbs!

When in doubt, grab a magnet off your refrigerator and check it out...

The only plastic on the 2500HD in the fender area is the flares.

Shaners - The magnet sold me.

I guess I should have posted it in a different way. They just gave the appearance (sound) of plastic.

Thanks for the direction on this issue.
