new 2500 truck

I saw this new truck for sale:

New 2006 left over Silverado, 2500 series, 2WD, extended cab, LT 2 decor, Factory towing package, 8.1 liter big block V8, Allison 6 speed auto. Sticker over $ 36k. They are asking $ 23,900. Looks like a good deal.

I would love to have this bad boy, but I do not think it would be a good idea to give up my Z71 for this. I could probably do an even trade, but I would probably pay a substantial penalty in fuel economy. What could I expect from this truck mileage wise?

Hi pm26--Price should be about $25750 retail, and $22400 trade in. You get an 8.1 because you need a hauling machine. If your concern is fuel economy stay with the Z71.--Frank Sub

I don't know where your from, but 2WD trucks dont hold their value at all around here....but if you really want it, just do it.

I live in Florida and I really do not need a 4WD, which I currently have, except to get my boat out of water. But then, it is only a 21 ft boat. Unless I get a much larger, heavier boat, I really do not need a 4WD that much. The Z71 is not my daily driver. Still getting 11 MPG vs 15 is not encouraging. I would definitely get this truck if I had say, a 30 ft travel trailer to tow. Duramax trucks are much more money.

I'm going through the same battle myself. I want a new truck and there is a 06 2500 8.1 allison 2wd here for $23,500..

No doubt its a smoking deal. I don't really need a 4wd either, buts its nice when you do.

My only suggestion is. If you plan on keeping this truck for a while. 5-10 yrs, GO FOR IT. But, it will be much to anyone else but you in 2 yrs if you trade it in.

I'm debating over this or a 2500 4wd duramax.. for $35k

What do you think??

PS. If you haven't driven the 8.1, you have too. It is a beast!!!!!!!!!

For a long haul, you may be better off with a Duramax, especially the 4X4 version. In many parts of the country, 2WD trucks are not worth nearly as much as 4WD, and the big gas engine and its associated bad fuel economy would be a real liability if gas prices shoot back up. Which can easily happen if Bush starts a new war with Iran (I hope it will not happen).

This would depend on what your needs are. Do you need the 4WD, or is it do you just want the 4wd. I will say that a 4wd is always preferred but you have to look at what you do and does your lifestyle(hunter/ fisherman etc) mandate the need for a 4WD truck. If it does, then there is no question that a 4wd is want you need. In my case I don't hunt or fish and I don't go off roading so a 2wd is fine for me. I would have liked to get a 4WD, but I did not need on so the price that I got for mine was too good to pass up.

So I would say the price is pretty good. The mileage on a big block is going to be from 7mpg-12/13mpg. You may get a little better on the highway but not much. Also the 2wd is not bad it really helps to get better tires than the factory ones. Better tires really help. I had a 2wd 2500 Burban and when I was stationed up in Wisconsin, once I put some better tires on it the truck never got stuck(I also had the G80). And lets face it if you are like the 80-85% of people that do not go off-roading, a 2wd with a locking diff(G80) and some good tires, you will be good 95% of the time. Don't get me wrong if I could of got 4WD 2500 for around $21,000 like I got my 2WD 2500 I would have but none were around at that price.

Good luck on your truck.
