Hi, I have an 89 K3500 with the 454 and the external crank damper has come loose and just bangs around between the block and the pulley. What is the process for putting it back on and lining it up properly? the chilton manual is real vague on this process. can it be done with the engine still in the truck? any special tools? do you think its okay to use the same one or is it likely to be damaged requiring a new one?

thanks

You need a tool to remove and install the balancer (here is an example Balancer Tool)

It can usually be rented at most parts store.

The balancer needs to be replaced and can not be repaired. It should be replaced soon since it can cause engine damage in it's current state.
