Hello: just wondering if anybody out there has bought the oem fog light package from gm and installed them by yourselves, just looking for the cost of the kit, what's included and how hard it is to install, i currently have the factory wiring harness already there for the lights, but i am told i need to add a relay and the switch itself, if anybody could help me with info that would be mighty d**n cool of you all.

I installed an OEM fog light kit on my 06 Silverado Z71 recently. The cost of the kit was $ 190 plus tax (this is slightly better than the list price of about $ 220). The OEM kit comes with a new lower valance panel with holes already cut out for the fog lights. You need to remove the old panel, then transfer the valence panel extension to the new panel and reattach the new valence.

The kit comes complete with the wire harness, new switch, and relay. To replace the switch, you need to tilt the steering wheel to its lowermost position, place the gear selector in low, and then gently pry off the instrument panel trim with your fingers. No need to use a screwdriver on this one. Pry it off one clip at a time. Then you will see the switch. You need to use a screwdriver on the old switch to pry it out. It is not easy and you need to insert a flat bladed screwdriver on the right side of the switch to get it out. The new switch plugs into the existing connector. Be careful - the connector has locking tab which you must press in to release it.

Follow the instruction enclosed with the kit to attach the wiring harness to the underside of the relay box. Same for inserting the for light relay. The instructions are somewhat confusing. The harness terminal must be attached to one of the fog light relay terminals. Make sure you place the relay in correctly. Look at the numbers of the individual terminals on the relay. Once the relay is in place and you are standing on the right side of the truck looking at it, the numbers on top should be upside down. At least they were on mine. the wiring harness terminal is attached to the green square in the left upper corner of the terminal box .

The fog light harness must be grounded by attaching it to a grounding screw (already containing one ground terminal) near the right fog light. The fog light harness is routed along the bottom of the radiator support and secured with enclosed loop snaps.

When installed correctly, the fog lights will only turn on when the ignition is on, and they only work with low beam headlights. When you turn the high beams on, the fog lights will go off.

Always make sure that the key is out of the ignition switch and disconnect the negative battery terminal before you start installing the fog lights.

Search the forum, there is plenty of info available on OEM fog light installation.

hey thanks pm26 all the info was great, but even cooler was the fact that my fog wire harness is already there installed from the factory, so i lucked out there, but i can't believe that gm would add the new valance to the kit as well, that's cool because on my old truck the valance i had to buy extra.

Ive seen some oem kits on ebay for fairly cheap included oem switch harness and nights. Dont know if its actuall oem but it looks exactly the same down to the switch. I bought a replacement light from the guy and its an exact fitmemt and look.

My '05 Sierra did not come with factory fogs, so I cut out the holes and installed a set of PIAA 540's. They fit perfect in the 5" cutouts. Just thought I'd throw out another option.

Did the PIAA's plug to the Factory Harness to allow for the use of factory Switch

No, I used the harness, relay and switch that came with the PIAA kit. My truck has the manual transfer case and had a useless pocket where the 4x4 push buttons go. Removed the pocket, put in simple plastic filler and installed the PIAA switch and a rocker switch for my aux back-up lights. I'll post a pic as soon as the camera batteries are charged. :)

Ok batteries charged.

It's easy as pie.

I actually cut the bumper with a knife, installed the light brackets in factory drilled holes, plugged them in then put the kit supplied relay into the empty relay slot then popped in the kit supplied switch. I think it took me 20 mins to complete and it looks original

I paid $175 for the kit back in 2003

Look for yourself
