Where can I get the GM IPod interface and how much does it cost? Easy to install?

can you get one for my truck, a 2005 silverado? im not sure what they are, but does it let u use your ipod through the stereo? i dont have an aux jack, so im clueless.

These guys have Ipod adapters for GM factory radios (see their 'products' link):

Just make sure you get the right one to match your year/radio. As I recall, some adapters go inline with a satellite radio or remote CD changer, and simply insert the Ipod audio signals via a switch you select. In other words, you must have the satellite receiver or remote cd changer powered up and selected, and the the switch trades out the normal audio input signals for the Ipod signals.

 

Another version from PAC (more expensive) plugs into the rear connecter where the satelite/aux input would normally go, and fakes the signals to make the GM radio believe there is an AUX device connected. As you select the BAND or AUX button on your radio, it will recognize the Ipod as if it were a remote GM accessory, and play as needed. This way you don't need the remote CD changer or satellite receiver. Not sure if the interface is sophisticated enough to skip songs, power-down the Ipod, etc. -- hopefully the online documentation will help.

 

All of the above assumes a 2003 or newer GM radio. PAC may have other interfaces for older radios as well.

 

BTW, you may be able to find a PAC interface for cheap on Ebay, but PAC explicitly states on their website that interfaces purchased on Ebay will not be supported via factory warranty.

I checked out the link and it was almost totally worthless to me. Since I am not a techno geek, I couldn't figure out what I needed (on their website) to hook up my iPod 30 GB video to my 2005, 6-disc factory radio (without XM or NAV).

I believe the iPAC-OEM is the closest adapter they have for you. You would have to add their 'AB-GM12' cable option to the iPAC-OEM module. According to their note, the catch is that you would likely lose the functionality of the remote CD changer.

 

You might also give USA Spec a try:

I was assuming if you have a six-disc CD, it was a separate unit with a cable that connects into the back of the main radio (thus "remote" or "aux" relative to the main radio. Honestly, I haven't paid much attention to these options from GM, cuz I'm too much of a cheapeskate to buy them. Maybe you have a six-disc unit integrated into the main radio?

 

In any case, the Ipod interface from PAC, and USA Spec use the AUX input on the back of the factory radio. Normally, this input is used for a satellite receiver, or remote (external) CD changer.

 

I really suggest calling Crutchfield to determine the correct interface for your radio. Hopefully you'll get in touch with one of their better representatives that can match you up with the correct interface.

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

 

I have a 2007 Sierra (non-classic) non-Bose system. I'd like to get something to where I can plug my iPod in to the back of the OEM radio and use the steering wheel controls to control it. I hate using the aux jack at the front of the radio and having to unplug it everytime I park somewhere. I've seen this for a lot of vehicles, but no one seems to make one for the 07-up GM trucks (everything stops with '06 models). Any help? I can't find anything on PAC, USA-Spec, or Crutchfield. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place?

I have the PAC Audio iPAC-GM3 unit installed in my truck. It connects to the XM unit located behind the glove box. It's a great unit and I highly recommend it. You can control the ipod via the steering wheel controls and also the touchscreen navigation radio. It does have have some quirks, such as a limit on artists/albums/etc., but it's not a big deal and only an issue if you have the navigation radio. Burro, I believe this unit will work for you. I bought mine from a reseller on ebay. Check this link out; it's the installation/operation manual for the GM3: iPAC GM3.

I'm not sure Nick. I think Rich would be a good person to answer that question. If you don't have XM, I'm sure PAC-Audio has a unit that will work.
