2002 2500hd curb weight

I would add atleast 1000lbs to Shaners estimate, probably even more.  My truck goes across the scales at 5220 lbs with a full tank of gas, and its just a little half ton with a small block.

I'd say 6400lbs would be a good starting point....

This is how I figured my number out, and correct me if this is wrong.

GVWR (9200 lbs) - Payload (4190 lbs ) = Curb Weight (5010 lbs ) .

This was figured using Reg cab, Long Box, 2WD, 6.0L and I believe the auto tranny.  The numbers came out of the brochure, and are most likely without fuel or passangers or additional equipment as they would be considered payload.

I doubt the diesel would add more than a few hundred lbs...

Well, there is a bit more to consider then just the motor.  The Dmax is right at 900lbs compared to the average SBC at 580lbs and the average BBC at 680lbs.  Then you have the 4L80E which weights 240lbs as it sits in the truck.  The ZF S6-650 is 235lbs for just the tranny, no clutch assembly, fluid, etc.  Add about 50lbs (not sure on this one, may be more) for the 11.5 rear axle over the 10.5" rear axle.  Then if he wants to know for 4wd like I assumed, you can add several hundred more pounds for that.

And since he is wanting a curb weight, that better include a full tank of fuel.  Which like you stated, won't be in the numbers you used because those are created to make the trucks look like they have more payload capacity then they actually do.  I would bet that if he wants the weight of a 4wd that it would weight within 200lbs of CMNTMXR81's truck given they are very close in frame length....

btw, I don't know how GM makes their trucks so light but my cousins F350 reg cab 4x4 PSD/6-speed weighs 7600lbs with a steel flatbed (not more then an extra 200lbs)....

Yea, the only variable would be the cab, otherwise he'd be right in the ballpark of mine.

GM acheives some of their lightness with thin sheetmetal on the body.   :but:

My 2002 2500HD CC SWB Dmax/Allison weighs in at 6700 lbs.  Yours will certainly exceed 6000 lbs.  Stop at a truck stop and have it weighed, then you'll know for sure.  If you've never used the scales, go inside and ask the clerk, they tell you how to use the scales.  The cost is about $8.00 at most places.

If you really want to know how much your truck costs, take a trip to your local landfill.  If it is like ours, they weigh your truck on the way in and then again on the way out.  Our dump charges by the pound.

2002 2500hd ext. cab 8.1, Allison weighed 6780 with my wife, daughter, me and 3/4's tank of gas.

daughter, wife and I combined weigh 375.  Gas is around 8 lbs/gallon (25 gallons at 8/gallon = 200 lbs.)

6780 - 375 - 200 = 6125 lbs.

Just my guess.

I didn't see the message two above mine.  Looks like my guess was pretty much right on.  We have identical trucks except I still have the 245's.
