The WORDS they use to describe the Silverado are almost negative, yet postive and the Tundra's wording is "glowing," but they say the placing was "real close."

They can give Tundra number one reviews all they want, they gave Nissan a number one review 3 years ago, look how far that got them

People want a real "all around" truck that handles well on road and off, has a nice comfy ride and interior, and can haul a 6-7K load (who hauls 10.5K with a half ton, on a consistent basis, seriously?), which according to the article the Silverado was significantly better than the otehr two.

Most people don't even buy the 6.0L trucks. The "preferred" silverados are those with the 4.8 and 5.3.

the only reason the silvy lost was because of its slowness, which is crap because you dont by a truck like those 2 to go fast in. the silvy has higher payload and higher towing, and they say themselves they like it the best (it got a 100/100 on the reccomendation portion) but the numer one factor in determing the winner (the highest percentage of points) was the drivetrain, where the silverado loses because of its "ancient 4speed". what a crock.

Edmunds HATES ANYTHING with a GM badge on it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at their glowing review on their long term test of the

honda Pantyline......err......ridgeslime.

Even with ALL their dealer visits for 3 blown out struts, water

leaks, interior squeeks, and piss poor gas mileage yada, yada.

They think its the best "truck" on the market !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And stupid ol' GM with its ancient 4 speed automatics.........

Read the toyotas new 5 speed auto trans. problems in the

gay camry (and others) over there.

But yet again they say toyota is the innovator and GM sucks !

The nissan tu-tu aka titan which STILL has MAJOR issues in its

3rd build year is another one of their darlings too !

It's all too predictable from them these days. Even their review said the below comments and they still had to find some reason to make Toyota the winner. It's like they made the article fit a predetermined conclusion at the very end.

After piloting the Tundra, the Silverado gives the impression of tidier dimensions. It's a bit easier to step up into the Chevy's cab, so the lack of a grab handle on the driver side isn't an issue (although a curious omission nonetheless). The interior shares some of the basic style of the previous-generation GMT800 GM trucks, but almost none of that truck's cheap detailing. Overall, it feels like a right-size truck, perfect for all-around use.
Of the three trucks, the Silverado is tops in on-road ride quality. It negotiates the choppy surface of L.A. freeways with a compliant ride and little pitching back and forth. Meanwhile, the Titan and Tundra have stiff-legged, off-road suspensions, so they ride like trucks in comparison. We'll see if the Silverado's comfortable ride affects its towing behavior in the future.

Off-road, the Chevrolet is unflappable over gravel-strewn washboard surfaces. With stout new chassis designs, both the Silverado and the Toyota Tundra are tight and solid while blasting through the dirt.

The Silverado is the benchmark in the war of flip-up rear seats, permitting lever-free action with one hand, plus a floor uncluttered by the protruding seat brackets of the Tundra's arrangement.
In the end, it was the Tundra's powertrain, performance and feature content that gave it the edge over the 2nd-place 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. In fact, the Silverado squeaked a minuscule lead over the Tundra in the evaluation portion of our scoring, and was the unanimous choice as the truck we'd most recommend to others for casual use. It's one refined truck, and offers an impressive breadth of talents. But the chasm in performance capability between the Tundra and Silverado simply couldn't be bridged by the Chevy's friendly ride and interior.

Note the cop out at the end over powertrain specs to give the recommendation to Toyota. :D:D:cheers:

Although GM didn't come out on top, the article isn't that bad. It shows that GM will certainly be in the ball game with the long overdue six-speed tranny. In all other categories besides powertrain, GM did extremely well. GM deserves to take a beating for delivering a newly designed truck with an old-school 4-speed tranny. If a person cares, they can buy the Denali w/ 6.2L and six-speed, and have a really tight race with the rice burners.

At least Edumunds wrote the article based on real published data, unlike other magazines that obviously base much of the findings on opinions (i.e. Consumer non-Reports). I appreciate the fact that they actually placed all trucks on a dyno, and performed what appears to be a fairly detailed analysis. Also appreciate their fairly well researched write-up on the stupid reason for GM's low dyno results. Besides the reasons they mention, I believe this is torque management for the weak 4-speed tranny. Hopefully this will go away with the 6-speed.

Dyno comparo

It's hard to argue with REAL data. GM should take note, and do their homework.

I also agree with their assessment that the Silverado may already look dated to some -- isn't this often the case with GM's "new" conservative designs. Probably because the grille has the same styling cues as the 99-2002 Silverado -- certainly no innovation here. Every time I see that elegant front end of the Tahoe/Avalanche, I wonder where the '07 Silverado front end came from. It's definitely an improvement over the present trucks, but would've looked so nice with styling more in line with the '07 Tahoe.

It would've been interesting to see the other domestic truck manufacturer compared in this race. Strange they they weren't invited to the party.

After reading this i took my sierra out and did a wot run, i slightly noticed a delay, but believe me the truck hauls some serious a$$. I'm surprised that even with the 4 sec delay that it was only .2 seconds slower then the Titan. Which i know is underrated, has a 5sp, and also puts out more torque at a lower rpm. I can't wait till somebody comes out with a tune for the new 6.0 to get rid of the this fuel loop crap. Another thing is the fuel ratings that edmunds posted are crap. Unless they were towing the whole time, i've consistently got 16-17 mpg on the inerstate, and right at 20mpg on the highway. going 55-60. The afm definitely helps while crusing. This review just reassures me in my choice of truck. Really would you rather have a truck that can go a second faster from 0-60, or would you rather have a truck with a better warranty, better interior, better payload, better towing capacity, better looks, and most importantly a better ride. It's funny that the silverado actually beat the toyota in the reccomend to buy section. Isnt the point of a review to advise people to buy something dur. Sure Toyota is going to offer an overyly powerful beast as a benchmark to judge their products by. I think the 6.2 is definitely not necessary for the silverado lineup. Most people don't buy a truck because of it's 0-60 times either just look at tiatan compared to f-150.

^ You have to take their "tests" with a grain of salt. The fuel they use in cali is a different blend than most other states, and typically, people in cali don't get the expected EPA ratings for their vehicles. I also read ther "blog" on the truck. It's brand new (break in fuel mileage is usually low) and it was almost always hauling something and it's LA!!! The poor truck probably spent enless hours idleing in traffic. If you read the blog, one of the idiots even ran against a stop sign along the entire bedside and put a nice long dent/scrape.

Toyota made a d**n good truck. Is it worth it for GM to put the 6.2L in their trucks? I think it's worth offering it, just to say you have the baddest truck available (image is everything). BUT it WILL be offered in the Sierra Denali so GM can punch back in commercials with something like:

"You wanted a 1/2 ton truck with 400 hp, 415 ft pounds of pavement pounding torque, all backed by a six speed tranny, well here it is. The all new 2007 Sierra Denali. We are professional grade"

Would I honestly consider buying a Tundra? On paper, yes. Based on looks? No. I have no need for the 5.7, or GM's 6.0L either. My truck is used AS a truck but the heaviest load I've hauled is my 3500 lb 67 C-10 on a 2000 lb trailer. Towed it with relative ease. I've owned Toyota and GM products (between my gf and I we have an 05 tacoma, 99 corolla, 2000 z71 and 67 C-10) and we've been happy with both. When it comes to styling and performance as a package, the GM trucks can't be beat.

i knew tundra was gonna win hands down... its the best selling company and sure the interior isnt as nice as it could be but hey the engine is what u worry about.. the engine and transmission are byfar the best shown in this review and are going to give WAY better miles and years of reliablility... i mean comeon the silverado has a life of how many miles? the toyotas engines live for over 300,000 miles or more with no major problems(such as chevy knocks) toyota took it and if it wasnt for an 04 sierra being handed to me almost new from my dad i wouldnt really give a second look at chevy's... i buy trucks and cars not problems! Sorry

GM still sells the most vehicles and the Tundra at FULL production can "only" produce 200,000 this year. GM will beat them in sales no problem.

This is based on what, I've had a 02 avalanche 180,000 miles absolutely no drivetrain problems until sold then wrecked, a 97 sierra z71 210,000 miles then sold it. Had a 93 sillvy z71 I ran it to 260,000 miles with hardly any problems sold it to a buddy who dogged the hell out of it then he got drunk one night and drove it through a small pond with just under 300,000 miles on it "It didn't run too good after that". I've got a 00 sierra 3/4 ton 4x4 sitting in my yard right now with 190,000 of the hardest miles you could possibly put on a vehicle and it still gets ran every day as a company truck the fuel pump went out, and a wheel bearing, and thats it problem wise. I Can think of dozens of people i know personally who are driving around in silverados/sierras with over a quarter million miles on them and these people don't buy trucks just for the looks, they buy them to be used and abused Toyota makes a solid product i know, but my buddy had issues with his Taco just like any other gm owner, my aunts corolla is a piece of poop constantly broke down. Alot has to do with how you maintance a vehicle, and how you work/drive it. Bottom line GM has been building long lasting vehicles for a while.

Oh, you think Tundra's don't have any mysterious knocks of their own in their past? Wonder what all the talk is about 4.7 V8 engines with piston slap / CSK?

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Of course we will be biased in here because they are bashing what we work hard to pay for and own. Humans will always be biased, and it's almost impossible to not have some sort of bias, no matter what. However, this article seemed to be very fair and look at everything about the trucks rather than just opinionate about them. Sometimes we need to face the fact that GM CAN be beat in things they supposedly do the best. It's just a review, and nobody (atleast anybody I know) takes them to heart. I buy a truck/car that I like, not that a magazine likes.

And I feel that they did well with the re-styling. Obviously the conservative, weird chrome-bar thing has worked for them. GM has been selling Silverados/Sierras like crazy ever since they took their respective name badges in 1998 or whenever it was. The problem I feel is that GM is having trouble relating to their audience. The Toyota commercials try to appeal to a "manly" crowd, and sort of a crowd that likes to pretend they know what they want in cars. They show a small differential next to bigger differential and the average person will think "WELL IT'S BIGGER SO IT'S BETTER HAHA". They almost fool the customer into thinking what they offer is automatically better and IT WORKS!

In the meantime, GM is showing pictures of Dale Ernhardt and playing that same old cheesy country song. Honestly, everybody who buys a truck is not a NASCAR loving, Blue-Collar nationalist. This is horrible marketing and is a gross generalization to anybody who buys a truck.

Sometimes I wish I worked for GM. It seems their consumers know how to run the company better than they do.
