Fuel Pressure Dropping

Recommended Posts

My fuel pressure drops off when I turn of my engine. When its running its provideing 57 lbs of pressure. When I turn off the motor it drops fairly fast. I try to start the engine after letting it sit I have to crank it for several seconds before the motor catches. If I wait 2-3 seconds after turning the key on then try to crank the motor it starts right up. This is telling me the pressure had not built up thats why its not catching.

I replaced the fuel pressure regulator last week and I also replaced the fuel pump last week with a new one. I see no external leaks anywhere and smell no gas from anywhere. My question is, is where is the pressure going. When the motor starts it doesnt act like one cylinder is flooded, so im not sure its going trought the injectors. I have check the new fuel pressure regulator and there is no fuel in the vaccum tube.

Any help would be appreciated. The pressure doesnt drop to zero right away, I'll try to time it tomarrow, maybe that could show some indicator.

It's going back through the pump or the pulsation dampener on the pump outlet line in the tank. Whether or not you replace the pump assembly depends on how badly it annoys you compared to the cost of the job.
