Automatic tranny shifter problem

Ok, here's another one guys. My automatic transmission shifter on the steering column is getting stuck on me. When I push the brake pedal, it's supposed to free my shift lever to shift into gear, right? Well it doesn't. If I turn the engine off but leave the ignition key on, then push the brake pedal, it frees it to shift, sometimes. I was stuck at the grocery store for 30 min this morning before it decided to free-up. I didn't see any obvious binding of the cable anywhere. Any ideas?

Probably a bad brake switch. There is a switch that is connected to the brake pedal that controls that. On mine it's combined with the brake light switch. Check your brake lights when it's happening too. Could be affecting your brake lights also which is bad.
