Blown speaker

So the speaker was working fine yesterday for a bit. I shut off the truck, and when I turned it back on, there was no sound coming out of the speaker in the driverside door. I havent had time to take it apart yet and look at it, but I was wondering if yall had any ideas on what might have happened.

Note: the sound wasn't turned up unreasonably high or anything, so the only thing I can think of is a bad connection or something like that.

Also, how do you get the cover off so you can access the speaker? I don't really wanna bend that wire mesh stuff if there is a better way.

Oh, and its a 2002 ext. cab chevy.

dont pull that wire cover off. If you want to access the speaker you have to remove the door panel. If you run a search theres a few threads w/ links. As far as why it blew, i have no idea, they arent exactly great speakers. There made of paper, and wont last a very long time. Still, I've never head of that happening. good luck

Thanks. I figured I would have to remove the door panel, just didn't really want to.

I noticed on my 2006 the eq level changes for each preset. Don't know about your year model. If I change my EQ I have to hold the button to save or else it will revert to what it was.

I've got an aftermarket stereo in there...probably didn't help the speaker any, but it was from my old truck. I checked the EQ and everything was fine....put it on all the way to the left and could only hear it out of the little speaker. The right side is still going nice and strong though.

Since you said you do have sound out of the tweeter, you probably do have a bad midrange speaker or the wire came off.

When you program each preset, it saves the current EQ settings. That way, you can have JAZZ for the jazzy station, and NEWS for the talk station, etc. (BTW, XM 150 sounds best on the NEWS EQ)

easy way to find out if your speakers are gone or whatnot.

take off door panel. its easy, take all the screws out and pull it up.

cut the wire for the speakers. strip the wire thats on the speaker and put it on to a battery. maybe a battery from a drill.

if it makes a sound and moves, its still good. reconnect the wires with a connector.

I have almost the same problem with my passenger side front speakers. No sound at all out of the mid-range and very little out of the tweeter.

As easy as that for the door panel? Any ideas on how many & where the screws are?

take off door panel. its easy, take all the screws out and pull it up.

Don't forget prying off some of the panels.

First you have to pry off the sail panel on the upper right side of the door. Then you pry off the power options switch panel and disconnect the plugs. Then you pry off the trim around the door handle and you pry off the lock switch. Then you unscrew a screw behind the door grab panel, a screw inside where the power options panel was, and a screw on the bottom of the door. Then you lift the door panel up and disconnect the courtesy light and it's off. Then the speaker is just clipped in there. You just unclip and see if it's connected or not. But seeing as it is the stock speakers, it's probably not a matter of it being connected or not. I would try what min9861 said to do and connect the speaker to a battery to see if it even works. I don't think you'll have to strip any wires, though. You'll just need something to connect the speaker to the battery (wire or something).

You might have gotten water in there and that killed it. That's what happened with one of my old speakers. It was soaking wet when I pulled it out.

Well, found out it is the speaker...not really sure what is wrong with it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It is always getting juice, so thats not the problem. I'm guessing a bad connection somewhere on the speaker itself. Oh, well, I guess its just time for an upgrade.

I've been doing a Nav upgrade to my Silverrado. When I first installed it I checked all four corners to make sure I was getting sound out of each speaker. As I faded to each corner the sound was good. Then I had a problem with the CDX harness so I took the Nav out and soldered the wires. Reinstalled it today and my problems with the CDX are fixed, but now I have very low volume from my Drivers side speakers. As you turn it up it you hear static (Kind of like a hard drive chattereing) Faded around Passenger side sounds great front and rear. Could the problem be the amp needs to be setup It came from a Escalade. It sound it fine on the first install. I need help!!!
