2001 GMC 2500HD 8.1L/Allison 4X4

Anyone have an 8.1L with a Wait4me Performance PCM reprogram? I want to get one but are wondering what to expect in the way of gas mileage improvement and performance.

Any input is appreciated!!

toored, I can't answer your question exactly, but a tune will definitely help. I have the Westers, and I'm not complaining a bit. Mileage hasn't gone down, and maybe up a little bit, but that's not really what these engines are for, I think. I had them take my tow/haul button and now it's a tow/haul a** button with higher shift points and much firmer shifting. You'll love that part, I think.

I originally had the 87 octane tune, but moved it up a notch, and there is a difference. Not sure this actually helps you, but you'll be glad you got the tune, IMHO...

toored, I have a 2004 Tahoe Z71 5.3L with a W4M tune and the performance improvement works great. I am only about 1 1/2 hours from Jesse and had him do mine in person. When I drive it like a sane person my mileage is up about 1.5mpg. I don't think any of us will see major mpg changes no matter what we do.

Thanks for the reply folks!

I have heard a lot of positive comments about Jessie's PCM tunes but have never heard from someone having an 8.1L engine

Toored,

Sounds like we have the same truck with the same questions. I also have a 2001 2500 HD 8.1L with CIA, Throttle Body, and a superchips programmer. The programmer works great but like all the others when used with Allison trans. you cant change shift points or tire size. I also have been reading about the PCM tunes are they better then the programmers or CAN YOU HAVE THEM BOTH, I would guess not, which one is better for performance. Seems like I have more questions then answers for you sorry.

From what I understand about these W4M PCM tunes is that this PCM needs to be removed and shipped to W4M and sent back ? In the meantime the truck sits because without a PCM , it's not driveable?

BTW , what does PCM stand for ?

If you want a programmed PCM he will send you one. It's $158.00. If you send in yours it's $83.50. I think PCM is power control module.
