Putting a plow ona 1500

I hope you can help me on this one , i went and looked at a new 2007 GMC1500 SLE-2 ext.cab and really like this truck now the problem is i need to put a plow on this , will this void any warrantys ? i was told in the past that it would so i had to go with the 2500 which i really don't need since all i do is plow my own two driveways out . the dealer i spoke with on sat. said it woulded void anything out but like i said everybody else has told me it would. thanks for your help !

Get somebody to plow your driveway or a get a snow blower. If you can avoid a plow and the plow prep package on your personal truck...do it!

Bin down that route before a long time ago , no sorry not getting anyone to do it and there is no way a snowblower would work in my driveway ! also gone the route of having another rig to just plow with but that can be a pain to plus i really don't need the extra rig ( have to many now !) why are you so against the plow pkg. anyway ?

I hate the plow prep package and the entire set up. Plows distroy trucks. I had to replace my clutch @ 40k miles, rebuild my front end and replace my front tires on a constant basis all thanks to the plow.......which is acutally connected and on the truck all of 1% of the total time. I can't even begin to count the number of expensive tires the plow prep package ate on my last truck. On my new Sierra I made sure to not get anything to do with a plow. I hired someone to plow for me and couldn't be happier. Let their old beater take the problems. It is WELL worth it. No more plows for my trucks.... ever!

Have you considered an ATV with a plow? My drive is about 700 feet long and 10 feet wide (except for near the house where its about 25 x 40. My ATV (utility mode) can clear the entire thing in about 10min or less. Two trips down and back does it. Its also easier to manuever than a truck. If the snow falls very deep (more than the blade height) it is sometimes needed to do a few runs while still snowing just to stay ahead of it.

Never been snowed or stuck in, and I get the added bonus of using the ATV for trail rides in the Spring/Summer/Fall.

Could buy a complete package (plows are often included as promo deals) for under $5000.

If you are going to plow get the 2500. The 1500 will be too light IMO.

There is NEVER a time when a snow blower won't work. My dad had one with a gravel driveway and he just had to make sure to keep it up high enough that it didn't pick up rocks. He still has some gravel at the end of his driveway and he just makes sure not to pick up the rocks. He also uses it to blow a path to the back of his yard to get to the barn. Oh, and it attaches to his lawn tractor, so it's about 48" wide and can take down a 12" drift in no time at all, but deeper than about 15" takes a few hits.

I would agree......I have a toro snow blower......2 cycle zero maintenence.......never an issue and we get some heavy duty snow here in Cleveland.

I hate the plow prep package and the entire set up. Plows distroy trucks. I had to replace my clutch @ 40k miles, rebuild my front end and replace my front tires on a constant basis all thanks to the plow.......which is acutally connected and on the truck all of 1% of the total time. If you're tearing it up, you're doing it wrong. I've been plowing since 1972 with 1/2 tons and smaller (Scout, Jeep, F150, K1500, etc) No problems. You have to know how to NOT slip a clutch. Never had to do a clutch, trans, diff. or anything. Slow and easy.... Go right ahead and hang a plow on that 1/2 ton and simply operate it with care and common sense. No, The damned warranty isn't voided. The FEDERAL LAW mandates that if they wish to deny the warranty claim, the burdon is on the dealer to PROVE the failure was caused by abuse/neglect/inappropriate use.

Remember to measure the ride height before the frame is installed and the crank up the torsion bars after to acheive the original ride height. Cheers!!

ROTFLMFAO!!! The tire wear is chronic on MANY SUV's/trucks who's owners insist on driving them like a sports car/sedan. Gentle to moderate acceleration, cornering and braking are the key to reasonable tire life . The additional 200-300 lbs. (or LESS) for a plow frame don't add up to a pisshole in the snow. Proper adjustment of ride height (which affects alignment) is hardly EVER done by the flat rate plow-slapper-onners. I've done my last two installs myself, for quality reasons.

As for leaking cab lights, lets just say the whole rest of our domestic s**tboxes are slapped together with terrible quality. The leaky cab lights are just another reminder of the $40K+ for poorly engineered/assembled crap.

Hey, I'm not saying you didn't get the results you got, just that they are manageable if you're willing to drive gently and not like a masher. Many mashers a) don't know they do it, and b) won't accept the idea of change. That's OK, just bring along your checkbook for tires, brakes, transmissions, fuel, etc. Your choice.... we are free to choose.

shouldnt void the warranty, they offer a snow plow package option!!

If you get a dealer optioned snow plow package you won't have any warranty problems. However, if you install the plow yourself and have a transmission issue......you WILL PROBABLY have a warranty problem at many dealers because they will claim you are using the truck for commercial use. You will hear about the Magnusson-Moss Act from lots of guys who will mislead you but the burden will be on you to hire an attorney and enforce it. Basically, spend $5,000 to get a $3000 repair. It doesn't take ALbert Einstein to know that snow plowing wears out a truck's powertrain.

Bottom line: Would you buy a used truck from a guy who used it to snow plow and claimed it didn't do any harm to the drivetrain?

stay away from a plow for a 1500...it will destroy your truck...go buy a nice OBS one ton for a few grand and plow away and if it blows ups then atleast your 1500 is still running, this thread reminded me of the buick le sabre i saw with a plow on it
