Few Questions on a 3500 Dually

Got over a foot of snow in Indianapolis area today. Even had to pull my buddies jeep cheroke out. Anyways, noticed lots of wheel hop when digging through the snow, is this normal? Never noticed it in my old Tahoe or 1500 Z71 or the Avalanche. Also, barley got the jeep out as it was in a 2 ft drift and my 3wd just wasnt cutting it. What eaton locker is needed for my front end? How much do they run and are they the best aftermarket lockers? Would it be better to just do the front end or do the rear too even though it has an auto lock from GM.

My dad has an '05 3500 dually and it does have a tendancy to have axel hop when digging through the snow or any other loose terrain, he has owned 4 duallies since 1994 and they have all done that as far as I can remember. Also the duallies are not that great in the snow due to the extra tires on the outside, all terrain tires do help some. My dad uses his truck for ice fishing and it is his daily driver in the winter and never gets stuck (except on the ice some times). As far as lockers I am not sure about those.

The extra tires in the rear make the truck want to "climb" up on the snow.

I would not worry about the wheel hop, just don't beat on it whan she starts dancing.

 

As far as a locker in the front, you might find one after market?

I remember reading that lockers in the front axle have never

been available from the factory.

 

The problem you'll have is steering the thing, the tighter you turn the

more the axles will bind. Then stuff will start breaking!

THrow a couple hundred pounds of sand in the bed, and that will start to help with the wheel hop. As for not seeming to have enough, my dad's old '94 has no problem breaking all 6 tires loose on dry pavement, but doesn't have much problem with traction in less-than-ideal situations either, including heavy snow.
