Wiper motor replacement

Well my wipers refused to work today at all. They used to sometimes make a buzzing sound and if I pulled on the wiper they would start working for the day. Now they make the noise but no worky at all. How big a deal is it to replace this motor? 92 pickup work truck

Time wise, this takes about an hour. I would recommend visiting the local library and printing off the how-tos from a Chilton's manual (that's what I did). Now the bad news, the part number for the motor is 15036007 and it lists at $240. Now I seem to recall getting one my local parts store for considerably less, but that was about 5 years ago. You may want check the GM parts direct site too.

I see them online at the local parts store for 70 to 100 bucks depending on reman or new.

same thing on my 1991 w/t

 

i hit the dashboard iwth my fist right in the middle of the defrosting vents on the top of the dash, seems to work

It sounds like you have the wiper motor circuit board problem that is common in these trucks. If you search I'm sure that you can find a previous thread on this. Lot's cheaper and easier than replacing the motor. Check with a dealer to see if the recall covers your truck.

I took the board out which looked ok but I hit all the solder joints with a soldering iron. Put it back in and same thing. New board was bout 28 bucks and a whole rebuilt unit motor and all was 58 out the door so I replaced the whole thing. Worst part of the job was getting all the rusted screws out of that plastic grate to unbolt the motor from the arms. All in all it wasn't too bad a job.

i to had that problem in my 91. 30$ pulse board from auto-zone cured it right up. go figure it craped out on me the da we started to move, half way to the new house with the second load it started to rain . lucky we were only moving 10 mins away.
