i wasnt too impressed on how my truck handled in the snow

now i don't know if it was for a number of other factors

For example

1. Small stock tires (but brand new on/off road)

2. possible slush/ice under 2 inches of snow

3. empty bed

Or are these crew cab long bed hd's not all that great in snow??

Seems like my gmc jimmy did better with just a set of bfgoodrich a/t's

I was really impressed with how my truck handled the snow. We had 17" in 24 hours yesterday. I have 285 Revos on the stock rims with about 200 pounds in the bed. 4WD wasn't needed until I got into some deep snow where the roads weren't plowed. I think most of your problem is the stock tires IMO.

After installing the Cooper Discoverer's mine does great in snow and slush. The stock AT's were junk especially when well worn. I have Auto 4WD in addition to 4WD, and the auto leaves me with an uneasy feeling. I slide a lot more in auto just because it's jumping in and out of 4WD. Full 4WD on the other hand is nice and solid.

and yes it is 4WD

i wouldnt think it would have too much to do with an empty bed... its a 3 ton+ truck

the thin stock tires are what i think it might be, plus like i said it was a little icy under the snow

Just curious/concerned because it was my first snow in the new full size truck, my little GMC Jimmy was awesome in the snow once i put the BFGoodies on it

I do a crap load of driving, upwards of 1000 miles a week.... that being said, what size/brand tires would you recommend i get for a good all terrain... that doesnt wear too horribly, but good enough in rain/snow

:)

I have a set of Michelin LTX A/Ts on my 2000 Z71, they have gotten me around in the snow pretty well, of course you might get more snow than we do in SW Missouri. The Michelins also last a LONG time.

those bfg a/t's were your best friend. i only needed 4wd going up hills and i got about 12". i'm assuming the hd's would handle about the same

These pickups do alright in the snow if their set up right, but they never have the same feel of a more balanced 4WD/AWD vehicle (like your Jimmy) in the snow. What I mean by more balanced is 50/50 F/R or as close to it as possble. The pickups are too heavy inthe front and too light in the a$$ end to feel the same way.

285/75/16 BFG AT TA KO's on the stock rims - I didn't even have 500mi on the truck and put these on. I've got 900 on the truck now and was driving around today with no problems whatsoever - never even used 4WD. Got my spray in liner done at Truck Outfitters this afternoon. Truck drives awesome in the snow - empty bed too!!

thanks for al of your feedback everyone... Once i get my roll and lock bed cover installed, i will be able to put all my tools for work in the bed (tools+roll & lock = about 500lbs) I think it will do a little better

Any more tire input would be greatly appreciated, thanks all

I have put Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's on 3 trucks in a row now, that's how much I like them. Currently running 265/75/16 load class E on the stock rims on a 2005 Sierra 2500HD Crew w/ short box. I have 4 - 70lb. Tube sand in the bed, and have yet to use 4 WD on the road. I also launch my boat from March thru November, and deal with slick ramps. The Revo's have not let me down. I do use the 4 WD on the slick ramps however, just to be sure.

Dueler's were my second choice. I'm on my 3rd set of BFG's and feel the same as you about them as you do the Dueler's. I don't think you can go wrong with either tire!

I have heard so many good things about both BFGoodrich All Terrains and Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's

I have had the BFGoodies before and i was VERY happy with them... but I have heard so many things about the Revo's

Grrrr decisions, decisions

Another thing.... i hear mixed reviews about 285's fitting on a stock 2500HD, and it is making me second guess getting them

I have the Revo's on my HD - 265's E's - love them.

By the way - does your truck have a locker in the rear....if not - that might be why your rear was a little skittish ??
