Honesty...

so today i walked out to my 2000 Silverado Step-Side and notice on the passenger side theres a nice crack in the fibreglass and half my trim is broken and theres a dent in my door. I was fuming mad! no notes or anything as to who did the deed.....

1 month ago at about 11:00pm i hit the side of a vehicle in a parking lot (first time ever doing something like that.. i guess i was overly tired). i knew the price was going to be high because body-shops overcharge everything. Regardless, I wrote my name and number on a piece of paper and said get this fixed and give me the bill. I get a call from the guy and he said the price would be about 600 bucks. I write him a check for 600 and 1 week later he gives me the bill at $590 and wanted to give me 10 bucks back. i said keep it and we went on our way.

So now after fixing someone elses car i now have to fix my truck. Even if the guy says "listen i hit your truck im sorry but i only have 100 bucks to help fix it" id be more than happy and understandable...... but i get nothing. these people make me sick. no honesty left anymore....... so sad

(consider myself vented)

So to keep this from being a completely useless thread lets here other experiences with parking lot fender benders.

I've already spent enough $$$ on paintless dent repair on this truck...I'm about to go buy the tools and learn it myself. Can't be that hard, and I've spent more money on tools I get less use out of, that's for sure.

i fixed my share of dents on my vehicles and friends vehicles. heres some tips.

Buy a cheap grinder and flap discs.

bondo is your best friend. (if used correctly)

those color-match spray cans at the hardware store actually match pretty well.

dolly and hammer work great on fenders. and other thin metal areas.

if the dent is on a corner it will be a PITA

if your fixing those plastic bumpers a heat gun can help you mould the plastic to the right shape (i did this on my uncles ford probe and you cant even tell it was dented)

i should be able to fix my truck on a lazy Saturday come summer. But still. the plastic trim itself is 65 bucks (just got back from GM). the paint will be another 20 bucks. bondo will be another 20 bucks. and 5 hours of my time for a thing someone else should be repairing :/

if i went to a body-shop it would be an easy 700 dollar repair. i suppose I should be just lucky that ive had some experience fixing dents.

thanks for the website. however. i already bought the part at GM. i get a 15 percent discount at GM goodwrench so it worked out to about 55 bucks.

There is where you would like a security camera pointed right at your truck. I have not been hit like that but I had my window busted twice just for stupid stereos. I just stopped puting aftermarket radios in and the problem has stopped for now, until they see something else they like. I was bowling one night and someone swiped my dual cb antenas and used them to beat cars in the same parking lot. Everytime the police would never do more then file a report, but what can they do.

I got hit a couple of months ago in the parking lot. Went out to get my car for fall break to discover that the rear bumper was pushed back into the rear fender which shifted over and pinned the tailgate. No note or anything. People like that make me sick. Sorry about your truck man.

We get more and more of it everday at work, and I always say, nobody wants to be accountable or admit when they're wrong. Attitudes seem to have shifted to looking around to be sure no one saw me vs. doing the right thing.

What I think is really sad, is a lot of these people don't think they did anything wrong. They'll even go as far as thinking that it is your fault for parking your vehicle near their's. Had you not parked there, they wouldn't have hit it, so you need to pay for that maggot's damage.

Yeah...There are some.

The last time I went to Denver, I had a rental car get ran into while parked at a mall. When I came out, there was a cop leaning on it (kind of scary when you walk outside and there's a cop waiting on you), and when I walked up...He said that the lady that hit the car had parked her truck and gone into the mall to find a cop to tell. I was amazed. Her insurance took care of it without a hassle on my part at all.
