Let's get some infos about OnStar in the new GM pick-ups.

GMC SIERRA 1500 2007 (NEW BODY)

CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 2007 (NEW BODY)

1) Where is located the OnStar module?

2) How to disable it without disrupting the Bus System of the vehicle?

Note:I know there is a large quantity of people who worships OnStar, I am not

making any sort of comments about them nor the added safety that they

gain from the service. Please refrain from posting stories of mums locking

up childs in sub-freezing temperatures....

SO PLEASE KEEP IT TECHNICAL

Huh ?

X2?

Don't pay the bill, disconnected. Worked for me...

I never paid a bill to onstar and mine has worked for for 7 years. I removed the antenna and if I push the button they still answer and then give me a sales pitch to sign back up. Of course, I have an 01 which will stop working soon as it is analog. soon.

My point is if you are really concerned about tracking/privacy, I would suggest additional steps to disable. Unfortunately, I cannot answer your questions about where it is and how to disable.

OK, quoting HawkeyeOC, "Take a hammer to the black "sharks fin" antenna on top"

The government is tracking your truck using the Onstar module!!!!!! Didn't you hear???????? They want to know what you are up to all the time and need to count how many drug dealers you have visited in the last 24 hours.

Conspiracy! Conspiracy! Conspiracy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tell you!!!!!!!!

So you know exactly where all of your cupholders are, but nobody has clue of the module location.

Well I guess that this is a good picture of the average knowledge the drivers of this kind of vehicles have of it...

Your dealer service department may be able to tell you where the module is. Besides the privacy, there are medical reasons you may want the unit disconnected, as a three to five watt radio may interfere with older technology pace makers and some epileptic (sp?) anti-seisure devices.

For those of you who think your being tracked is a bunch of nonsense, have a warrent for your arrest issued and attend any major sporting event, attempt to travel by air, bus, or rail, or go to the post office or another federal building. However, if you really want to live off the grid you need to get rid of a lot more than the On-Star system in your truck, which also has a black-box recorder so that you cannot sue GM if you get hurt in an accident (data taken within 3-5 seconds of the air bags deploying, part of the air bag system), and you need to leave your cell phone and toll tracker behind. Also, make sure that you do not have a license plate, because the plate can be read automatically from video clips or live feeds from cameras. If you want to see the future of survalence, look at England, which now tracks most of their released felons through facial recognition software from cameras that are in most urban areas.
