Quick Exhaust Question

Ok so first off i am new here. i am about to buy a 2006 silverado v6. I want to throw a exhaust on there but i want to to sound really mean and have a little rumble. But i herd a exhaust on other v-6's and they sound kinda funny. I was thinking about maybe about bigger piping, or shorten the pipe. Does anybody have and suggestions or maybe some sound clips. Thanks

There's a thread here from a week or so ago (sorry, don't remember the name of the thread) that had an exhaust clip of the v6. Turns out it has no muffler. Sound good though.

So, that's one option for you is to remove the muffler. Not sure what your local laws would say though.

And welcome to

I don't want to sound mean but my advice is don't buy the V6 get a V8 and at least a 5.3L. I drove a new V6 a couple of years ago and all it did was make noise, it had absolutely no power and that was empty. I can't imagine how useless it would be with a load on. The six won't save much on gas because it is working so hard just to keep the truck moving.

that is some good advise. do they make the silverado work truck in a v8?

if you order it that way, either a 4.8L v8 or 5.3L v8 I think it only adds 600 bucks to the price

hey hey hey why hating on the v6

my v6 is perfectly fine for me

and get this, it has even taken a full pallet of 12 foot sheets of 3/4 rock liek 20 miles, and sure it was not great, but it was also just fine.

Unless you tow you dont NEED a v8. Just depends how you drive.

Ill admit though, that without a retune this enigine was pretty crappy, but after I could nto be happier.

There's nothing wrong with a V6, it's just that they don't sound near as good as a V8.

I like the my V6 so far, but when it dies, I am swapping for a 5.3 V8.

The V6 gets you from Point A to Point B, and does good for mileage. Although, without a muffler on mine, I get 19 MPG. A friend Mechanic said I would be getting 20-22 MPG with a muffler. And no, my friend mechanic is not BSing me, because he works on all kinds of vehicles, mostly GM.

I wouldn't invest too much into the V6...More a performance muffler like Flowmaster or something of the like. I won't get headers, or an exhaust system for my V6 because I know I'll do that when I get he 5.3 At the most, get an CAI...Well, I'll do that, but you may not want to do that.

Full Size + V6 = Slow freakin truck....

It definitely will get you from point A to point B, but if you want any sort of power your going to have to go for the V8. The 4.8l isn't that much more expensive than the 4.3l and it's worth every penny. You could even go for the 5.3l if you want.

If all you care about is having a truck to drive around than get the V6, but otherwise go for the V8!

Since we're de-railing the topic with price and mpg comparisons, I did a quick comparison in prices.

2007 Silverado 1500 1WT Regular Cab Standard Box 2WD w/4.3L V6 @195hp - $18,760.00

2007 Silverado 1500 1WT Regular Cab Standard Box 2WD w/4.8L V8 @295hp - $18,760.00

2007 Silverado 1500 1WT Regular Cab Standard Box 2WD w/5.3L V8 @315hp - $19,360.00

So, no charge apparantly to upgrade to the 4.8L V8, and only $600 to get 20 more ponies with the 5.3L.

The 5.3L in that truck is going to get comparible mpg as the 4.3L V6. I had a 4.3V6, and that thing was a DOG, and there were people with the V8's getting better mpg than I was.

So, $600 isn't that much more to pay for more ponies and comparible mpg.

And if you're dumb enough to finance or lease a vehicle, then $600 over 5-7 years is only a few bucks more a month.
