Need Advice on Edelbrock Headers or Others

I need info from anyone who has Edelbrock shorty headers or maybe any other type of shorties. I currently drive a Sierra 1500 Crew Cab Classic with the 4.8 and 3.23 gears in the rear. I use this truck as the family car with a 2 yr old in the back so I am not looking to mod this truck the way I use to do my cars. I'm going with shorties because of ease of install and price.

I'm looking for anyone with experience with Edelbrock or any other shorty headers especially on the 4.8 liter engine. I am specifically wanting to know:

1. Do the headers hurt your low end, off the line performance?

2. Do the headers give any added gas mileage?

At the moment I am getting 20 MPG average in mixed driving. My last tank of gas had 465 miles on it before the gas light activated.

With my little girl at home my priorities have changed from horsepower madness to reliability, so I am going to wait until my warrenty is up before I do much to really mod my truck.

Thanks for the help.

Unless you're doing a heads/cam upgrade or going forced induction...Most of the folks tuning these trucks on dynos are saying that headers don't really help much of anything. The stockers are fine.

But I'm no pro ;)
