I am looking at a 2000 Chevy Silverado 2WD, LS, ext cab very clean with only 21,000 miles. It has an automatic tranny and the 4.8L engine. Has most of the power options with cloth interrior and bench seat. What is a good price for this. Thanks in advance as always!!

Was this an old guys truck? 21k miles on a 7 year old truck is VERY low. Are you 100% sure that odometer hasn't been rolled back? Have you run a CARFAX VIN check on it yet?

My dad just sold his '94 with 70k on it. He only used it when they camped, the low miles really increased the resale so expect to pay pretty good for the low miles.

I looked at a '91 with 14,000 miles on it and a '96 with 13,000 miles on it this week....They're around.

People want MASSIVE money for them...But they're around.

I would think with gas prices going back up and the huge number of Silverado's out there for sale that these things would be going pretty cheap. Maybe I should wait until gas breaks $3.00/gal in the summer to buy.

Its at a dealer and they are wanting more than NADA retail for it. NADA does account for the low mileage. I plan on doing the carfax if I can get them off thier price. I just wanted to get some opinions here on how much it is worth.

If your serious with the dealer they will do a Carfax for free to sell it to you. I have done it before. They subscribe to the system so its not of any cost to them.

I agree. The dealer can and should have already ran a free CARFAX check for you. I do know for a fact that the GMT-800's were not the hardest vehicle in the world to roll the odometer back on. I had a (stupid) freind who purchased a 99 NBS Silverado from a shady dealer. He never ran a VIN check on it. The odometer read as 120,000. We ran a CARFAX VIN check on it last year before he sold it for a new 06 and the last reported odometer reading was 160,000.

So what is a fair price for this truck? Also does both the extra cab doors open on 2000 model? Or does just one of the extra cab doors open, 3 door? I thought the 2000 model was the first year to have both extra cab doors open. Thanks again!

I just bought a 2001 Silverado extended cab LS in January, it had 129,000 miles on it and the book was arount $12,500. I gave $8,900.00 from a dealer. Just so happens I knew the previous owner and talked to him in detail about the truck, so I knew it was well kept and in good condition. I don't know what the book value is on this one, but I would expect to pay around $11,000.00 - 13,000.00 for it anyway. I think that seems like a fair price providing the carfax is in good shape. How about it?

This dealer is asking $15,900, bottom price is $14,600  . At $14,600 he is at high retail in NADA. I am wondering if I should go to another salesperson.

Thats too much. He can keep it on his lot all year and not sell it for that price. Go the general manager and make him a realistic offer. Your saleperson does not have the a real matter in the say. Used car sales is where the dealers make money and they are going to make a ton off of you if you purchase it at that price. I'd bet they paid 10,000 tops as a trade on that truck. They had to do nothing besides a quick detail. The rest is pure profit.

I offered the guy $11,500. I don't think that is low balling him at all. I am thinking about going and talking to the sales manager as you suggested and offering him $12,000. Too much, too little?

In my area, a truck equipped like that would bring about $13K at a car lot and $11-12K from a private party sale. It sounds like you are making a good offer, but be prepared to walk on the deal. The sales manager may not like your going over his salesman's head to make the offer to him.

If you really want the truck, arrange for a cash sale. You can get your own financing pre-arranged and a bank or credit union can give you a letter of authorization for up to a certain dollar amount on a loan. If you have a trade-in, give them a dollar amount you want to spend for the new truck and your trade. They can adjust the trade-in value and the new truck value so you get the amount on paper that it will cost you out-of-pocket.

If the lot wants to move the truck, they should make you a deal. But remember, offering a set price backed up by money means you don't want to negotiate any further. If they balk or counter-offer, say thanks and leave. By having the money immediately available, you are in a good barganing position to the extent of how much you are willing to pay. Don't go over that.

Ya I guarantee he got it at auction for about 7 or 8k , I bought a 2002 LT Tahoe 4x4 80k for 11350 last year . Clean car fax 1 owner .

I would wait him out a week or 2 , show up and look at it once or twice let them see ya and then drive off .
