Mobil 1 Troubles Or Just Bs?

I was in a local oil changing place today and asked why they still put the ol change 3 or 3,000 sticker in my work trucks windshield if I was using Mobil 1. I was told by the tech that mobil 1 had been sued over the claim that one could go longer between changes. I have looked for said claims on the net and am unable to find it. I did find on the Exxon Mobil site under the warranty section for Mobil 1 it states to follow your owners manual for time frames. I also noticed a new product to their lineup Mobil 1 Extended Life. Which states longer times between oil changes. I would like to know if anyone else knows anything on this as I have been thinking of using Mobil 1 in my personal truck.

Go ahead with the Mobil1. My last oil change I changed to Mobil1 and on the sticker they put "oil change monitor"

How much extended of an oil change are you looking at going? You can run Mobil 1 to 8k with no issues.

 

I have not heard of any issues with Mobil 1 and extended drains and anyone getting sued. If there was any info it would be on bobistheoilguy.com

You can run mobil1 on an extended run, but you can not run your oil filter longer.

 

What they where sued for was that the mix in the extended life and regular stuff was the same. but they where charging more for the ext life.

If you vehicle is still under warranty, it would be best to follow the mfr. recommendations for oil change intervals. Mobil 1, and any other quality sythetic oil, can be run longer than this without problems. However, if for some reason your engine has a manufacturing defect of some sort and you've had your oil in the crankcase for 10K miles, it could give them a reason to deny a warranty claim even thought the oil had nothing to do with it.

Just use Pennzoil Platnium it's just as good and costs less. If you're gonna pay the price for Mobil1 I'd use AmsOil or the like.

i swear by synthetics and do my own oil changes at 10,000 on my cummins dodge and the 5.7 suburban gets it every 7500

Although I know I dont have to change my oil every 3K miles and I do run M1, I still do. I run my engine hard, brutal at times and fresh oil is cheap insurance for my mind.

I don't listen to the DIC in any vehicle. In my mind, if you're running dyno oil, then change your oil at 3k miles. If you're running synthetic, I always recommend (and won't go longer than) 5k miles, even if data says you can run longer. As stated above, even $20-30 in oil is good insurance against having to replace your engine prematurely.
