07 Nbs Fog Light Upgrade

Sorry, I posted this in the wrong place earlier.

I started a thread a while back asking if anyone had had any luck finding replacement bulbs (PS24W) for the fog lights on the 07 NBS Sierra.

I had been to every parts store and website I could find and that number doesn't cross reference to any other bulb. Screw GM for making it so d@mn difficult to upgrade. Tonight, I took matters into my own hands.

First I went to the local parts store and picked up the following:

(2) 9005XS SilverStar headlight bulbs

(2) 9005 bulb wiring harnesses

(1) roll of electrical tape

I did buy the connectors but I decided to scrap the OEM harness altogether so I didn't use them in the install.

You'll also want a rotary tool handy for modifying the new bulbs to fit.

This is what the stock housing looks like out of the truck and next to it is the sh!tty little bulb that GM decided to use.

Next I began to shape the 9005 bulbs with my Dremel until reaching about the shape of the bulb on the right. I bought a really cheap bulb first to test my idea before dropping the larger coin on the SS's. You'll want to only remove enough material to allow the bulb to fit in VERY VERY snugly to the housing. Fortunately you only need to make it round, no special indentations or cuts to worry about. If you'll notice in the picture above, the o-ring on the new bulbs is exactly the same size as the o-ring on the original bulb so the seal will be the same when the install is complete.

Once the appropriate size was reached I placed the bulb into the housing and then secured it with a small piece of wire to ensure that it can't back out of the housing even if the snug fit was not enough to hold it in place. You'll definitely want to secure it with something. The wire works great but you could use electrical tape as well.

Once the bulb was in the housing it was time to mount the bad boys up and hook up the new harness. Simple two wire swap here. Cut the two wires going to the old harness and then join them with the new harness for the 9005 bulbs.

It's that simple.

Now for the results!

Here's a shot with the new on the passenger's side and the old on the driver's just for comparison. Notice the difference on the gravel in front of the truck.

Now for the rest.

It looks absolutely amazing, especially when compared to the old ones. My low beams are PIAA Extreme Whites so this should give you some idea as to how bright and clean this makes the fog lights now.

Enjoy. If you have any questions, let me know.

Yo Daddy.

I saw your foglight mod here a couple weeks back, and tried it on my '07 Denali last week. Things went fine, and the lights look great! Very cool idea.

Problem though: Have you noticed any heat issues? My lenses are now slightly deformed, have some "bubbles" in the center, and there is some milky discoloration on the back reflective part of the housing. You can read about my experience over here.

1) Any ideas on how much new fog light housings are, or where I might get the GM part number (it's probably stamped on the back of the unit, eh)?

2) Have you noticed anything like this w/ the ones on your Sierra?

3) I was thinking of drilling a vent hole or two in the housing, but I'm worried about water. Any thoughts?

4) I've installed an HID kit, so I'm thinking of putting in LEDs...

Anyway, even with the deformed fogs, my SilverStar 9005XS's are frickin bright (I like that), but clearly they put out too much heat for the housings. Any input is appreciated!

Overheating the plastic housings with those lights. Find some glass coverings to replace the plastic coverings. Try a yellowish tinge for better eyestrain prevention. Works for the sun and Mercedes Benz.

Hello new to the boards, and this is my first GMC.

I recently bought a 2007 Yukon with a denali core package whatever that means, it came with no fog lights, my quetion is can I buy them and install them myselft, if so what is the part # and how difficult is to install them

My apologies if this seems like a dumb question.

I followed this post and did my fogs to HID 6000K so they match my High and Low beams.

Now I want to disable the stupid DRL and change it to the parkinglights/fogs. with the lows on with the sensor sees night. Any help let me know.

Kind of hard to understand what you are asking. To disable the DRL's, all you have to do is pull a fuse. I don't remember which fuse off hand, but it will tell you in your owner's manual and on the fuse block cover.

There are 2 fuses that can disable the DRLs, they are in series according to the Helm manual. Don't ask me why, but pulling either one, or both, disables the DRLs. Fuse 31 and/or 33 under the hood.

I found a fuse 32? that said DRL so i pulled it and with the truck running I had no PK lights. It is hard to say if it worked as my windshield is tinted and it makes the headlights turn on all the time. I also hate the headlights come on for 1-2sec. then off then on every start up.

Anyone know how to switch to ign. on the headlight relay? Something like under the hood under the fuse center I could cut and wire in Ign rather than acc.

Thanks

Turn the knob to the parking light only position and then go LOOK at the headlights. You should be able to tell whether or not the DRL's have been disabled because there will be NO LIGHT. :D

Wow yeah I wasn't thinking. I have been working on the truck every day or so for the last 2 weeks. As parts show up.

I checked it and it works. But the damn headlights turn on even all the time. B/C the tinted windshield. Something I will have to live with.

I think now I will wire the relay for the hids on the fogs to the parking lights. So I can drive with pk lights and fogs and have low/high/fog for the back roads. Like my old truck.

I used an 880 bulb and cut the clip off of the factory bulb and placed it on the 880 bulb. I then used a garden hose rubber washer in between the clip and bulb to take up the correct amount of space. It clips in just like a factory bulb does and I used no silicone or tape or wire to hold it in place. I dont have any pictures of how I did it but there is a huge write up on DieselPlace.com. • Just did an injector/HPFP replacement on Pepper at 192,400 miles; close enough to 200K, RIGHT? (If 200K is considered life end and to me it isn't). But hey, to each his own.    Have never run a catch can on this vehicle. Back side of every valve looked like a new valve spray painted semigloss black. Port walls looked 'neat' (all a normal result of passive EGR via VVT) Zero build up even in AFM cylinders. Just color. It uses no measurable oil and never has.    At 155,000 I put her on E-85 and a borescope of the cylinders at plug change showed very clean pistons and valve faces. The replaced injector tips looked new. (It was the pump piston seal that was leaking). Oh well, have six good backups.    Still gets 28 mpg on gas (highway average) and over 20 (highway) on alky. UOA's look good and runs as good now as it did when I bought it. Better in fact.    What improvement would a Catch Can provide this motor?     And given all this I expect that IF I installed one I'd see some water/gas/oil vapor accumulation. Byproducts of normal combustion.   Having said that, IF my motor used an appreciable amount of oil I'd consider it a useful 'crutch' until I had the situation corrected OR if bore polished, until I junked it or rebuilt it to stave off repeated plug fouling.    I'm not telling you what I THINK. But what its DONE.
    • Love the look. I'm a SCSB lover myself.    Two items. 1.) A spacer changes scrub radius but this also changes when we use wheels of different offsets. A little isn't a big deal. 2.) Steel wheels, alloy wheels all have different thickness. Same effect on the stud and lug nut as a spacer. When hub centric the wheel isn't supported by the stud. It's supported by the hub. The stud just keeps it all together.
    • I had a evap sol go bad a couple weeks ago. . I replaced it.  While watching live data at the time I saw I had some cylinder 1 misfires. No MIL but on live data I could see ~50 at startup and about 70 more after an hour a drive all on cyl 1.  I also noticed that the LTFT were -5% to -15% always.  And that bank 2 is always -3% richer than bank 1. Even across all driving modes, city, highway, etc it’s always 3% richer than bank 1. So I start with the misfire. Swapped coil, plug, and plug wires from 1 to 3. No follow. I got an Injector reseal kit, pulled the D/s injector rail, swapped #1 and #3 injectors, resealed them, reinstalled and retested.  The misfire followed to 3. So I ordered and replaced all 8 injectors, spark plugs, and plug wires. Also replaced the 1 time use fuel pipes under the intake manifold.  Injectors that were in the truck since new were  Part # 12668390.  I replaced them with # 12742701 Got from RockAuto. Pretty certain they’re genuine and the correct ones. I called a friend at a parts store who told me “the 12742701 were the correct superseded part # for the originals I was replacing”. So started truck after replacing all that and it’s running -15 - -30 LTFTs. I reset the fuel trims with GDS2 and drove it for a 60 miles trip each way. There have been no changes in the LTFTs.  I checked if the HPFP was leaking into the crankcase. I removed the pvc and watched the trims. No difference.  I checked the alcohol content and it was at 10%  I’m out of ideas here. Truck seems to run great. Just always rich on the fuel trims.  Anyone with any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I ran an injector balance test just for the heck of it and it came back this. I’m confused.  I have gds2 and some other diag tools if anyone knows of anything I should test next.
