Anyone Have The Clear Rear Differential Cover

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have one of these on their truck? I've seen them on the web and I think they look pretty slick. I'd only be doing it to be different and for the look of course. I found another post on this forum talking about the clear one is just a gimic and could cause more heat in the rear end, anyone know if this is true? I will rarely be pulling something, and when I do it's a small boat so I don't load her down!

Thanks,

I wouldn't use it myself, mostly because in order to hold up to the deflection that is caused when your rear axle is torqued, it would either have to be really thin or really thick. Then, if you ever went on a long road trip and got your diff fluid hot enough, you could potentially MELT the plastic, run your diff dry, and lock up your axle. To me a $20 part isn't worth a potential $700+ repair. Now if you wanted to go with the thick aluminum covers, those look sweet to me.

I thought it looked cool as well. I could see application if you do a lot of water stuff, to make it easier to check your fluid for water. I ended up just replacing mine with the OEM cover.
