Looking To Buy A Suburban

Recommended Posts

I want a Suburban, or GMC equivalent, not sure what they're called. I don't want to spend more then 10k. So what year/mileage should I be looking for, ballpark.

I build speakers, am I going to need to get a trailer, or will a 4x8 be able to slide in the back with just taking out the rear seat?

What year did GM make the change from the ridiculous stereo location,(hanging halfway out the dash for aftermarket), to something more manageable? Or am I going to be better off making a custom center console or something. I'm not real worried about the stereo, I just want a really nice front stage,(bi-amped, time alignment), and a single 15"

with about 2,000 rms on it.

All input is appreciated.

if i'm thinking correctly i am pretty sure that the back seat will fold down and the middle seats will lay forward which should enable you to put in the 4x8 sheet, i'm not 100% positive but i know they are super roomy inside i'd look for somewhere around a 98 or 99! there sharp

For the amount of $$ you want to spend, a 98 or 99 would make sense. With the rear seats removed and the second seats folded flat, you can easily fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood ( or whatever) in the back and close the barn doors- which were most popular then. BTW in this era both the GMC and Chevy were called Suburbans and they both came in 1/2 and 3/4T versions as well as 2 and 4WD.

I just researched this very subject. I was looking at getting a Suburban of this generation, but decided to move up to a 2001. The best bet for these years are the 98-99's as they have the most powerfull engine, and best overall reputation. The stereo you are talking about was in the 88-94 years, in 95 the interior was updated and the stereo is not in 2 pieces anymore. For $10,000.00 you should be able to get a very nice Suburban of this generation. Good luck!
