Six Sp Trans

When !! when !!!!! WHEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is GM going to put the 6sp trans in the 1500 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the 2008 MY. It takes time to build additions to factories & order tooling & train employees.

I've seen that rumor several places. Personally I think it's kind of shady if GM changes to the 6 speed the second year of the new trucks. This would leave all of us with 2007's feeling like we got a sub-par tranny.

What's the big deal? Besides saying you have a 6 speed tranny? The 4l60E is a tried and true, reliable tranny. Unless that six speed is going to give me another 5 mpg, I don't need the marketing hype of saying I have a 6 speed. Would rather GM spend the additional development cost on making the 4l60E bullet proof.

I was thinking the same thing after I typed that. I'll be towing a ~8000# travel trailer, so probably better off with the proven 4-speed. The NHT package gives the the "heavy-duty" version with the 6.0L.

I agree! Not that big of a deal!!!

I wonder what the difference will be?

MPG-----Maybe 1 MPG?

Tow rating-----------who needs more than 10.5K for a half ton truck.

I would guess it will be an option for a year or two before they all have it

How much more are you willing to pay for it?

The 6L80E has been handleing the C6 Corvette 6.0L supercharged and 575hp without a problem so i think it will handle the GMT900 trucks nicely.

Interesting that only a few years ago all the complaints about the automatic transmissions and gear hunting, I wonder if the same complaints will arise from the new 6 speed transmissions "hunting" for the appropriate gear. Not that they would be malfunctioning but with the addition of two forward speeds, it will obviously have to shift more to take advantage of the additional gears and to keep the engine in the optimum rpm range.

The 6sp definitely hunts gears more than the 4sp. The only thing i would like would be an extra gear to to run around 4krpm at 70mph, versus 3rd in my 4sp which runs about 3200rpm. I'm not sure what my dad's denali is running rpm wise at 70 mph in 3rd gear. I'll be sure to go hot rod it some next time i get a chance.

I have a 07 Vortec Max and today I drove a 07 Sierra Denali. The 6-speed was more fun to drive and the engine had a bit of a growl to it (catback standard on Denali?) but overall I can't say the 6.2 got me there faster. My 6.0 'feels' every bit as powerful and is quieter than the Denali. I do like the upgraded leather but cant' stand the wood grain console. I don't know if I like the suspension any better, it's the Z60 vs the Z85 suspension. The Denali, with the Z60, translated every bump right to the occupants. The Z85, in my Vortec Max, handled corners just as good but was considerably smoother. Also, I don't see the benefit of the AWD vs AutoTrac. It seems that having a choice is better. I don't know which is technically better, but I'd have a hard time choosing the Denali over the Vortec Max.

which is the exact reason why we need the 6-speed in the GMT-900's. we don't have to be stuck with only one interior selection (denali) and we don't have to get the AWD.
