Different Rear End Or Gm Cost Cutting?

My 2001 & 2003 Suburban 2500s had a drain and fill plug for the rear end and a drain plug for the transmission pan. I just bought an 05 Yukon Denali, and I was very disappointed to find out there is no drain plug on the rear end or the trans pan. Both drain plugs come in very handy and make oil changes a breeze. Now I will have to spill 5 quarts of trans fluid dropping the pan, and I have to remove the rear end cover and reseal it to make the gear oil change.

Not a huge deal, but it would be so much easier with the drain plugs. I'm just wondering why GM stopped putting the drain plugs in? Could it be a different rear end, but what about the trans pan? The indention is there on the pan where the plug goes, but no plug. When looking at an 07 Yukon, there is no drain plug in the rear end either. The front diff does have both the drain and fill plug.

same rearend , just cost cutting. I read that by GM eliminating the drain plugs on the rear and trans saved them over 1 million dollars a year.

That really sucks for us do-it-yourselfers, but I can see why GM would leave out the drain plugs to save money now a days, especially if its close to a million each year. Thats hard to believe, but there are a lot of GM trucks and SUVs out there.

I can also see dealers making more money on services with the added labor time too!

Same with my Escalade's, no rear drain on the diff, and no drain on the new 6 speed trans.

I believe the reason for the lack of the rear end plug is because the '04 and up trucks, (at least on the Avalanches), have synthetic rear end fluid. Beginning in '05, the front differential on the 4x4's also have synthetic fluid. Under normal conditions, (no constant deep water crossings, flooding etc), the synthetic fluid should last for at least length of ownership.
