Is there a way to look at them for free? Or do you have to sign up for a pay service like Alldata?

Well... the alldata subscription isn't terriblely priced.

 

That being said I get get all my recall and TSB info through my insurance company for free (progressive displays them right on the webpage I log into) they get their data from edmunds so I assume you should be able to get that as well (I have no idea if it costs anything, I couldn't find it easily on their site)

It would be nice if there is a database for them that we could all easily access. With my jeep I've been thankful for www.wkjeeps.com/wk_tsb.htm because it lists all the TSB's, their related components, model years that they include, etc. I wish we had something similar for GM's.

GM seems to think their TSBs are as vaulable as the gold at Ft. Knox they way they guard the info. It's not easy at all to find unless you have access to their Service Information site and it's mostly dealers that get that.

TSBs all have a nhtsa number attached to them and filed at their site. You just have to do a bit of searching but all the information is out there.

 

For example:

Which is a bit slow but does the job.

 

For old TSBs for like the 78-89 CKs you'd probably have to go for alldata or edmunds

Even easier and FREE......................

Call the Chevy or GMC customer service 800 number (listed in your

owners manual) and have your VIN# ready.

They will tell you if your vehicle has any TSB or recall issues that

your vehicle needs as well as the case number to give to the dealer.

 

Don't bother calling or asking your dealer for TSBs or recalls because

most don't have a clue.......................geo

I have an alldata subscription, and the renewal is even cheaper. I really enjoy it and it has saved me money.

Alldatadiy.com does look good, although currently you cannot get a subscription for 2007 vehicles even although you can search 2007 TSBs.

TSB?

Technical Service Bulletin. Means there in enough failure complaints to give instructions to dealer tech's on how a defect should be fixed if they encounter the problem. Not exactly a recall but not too far from one.

Chris-AFD256: It is very useful to review TSBs, especially during the warranty period, as it gives you the necessary "keywords" to discuss with the dealer and get problems fixed before the warranty expires. We did this on our Toyota Sienna and had several relatively minor but annoying problems fixed. TSBs are not recalls, and dealers will not tell you about non-serious issues unless you specifically ask.
