Noise Around Windshield With Bug Shield Installed

As the title and description say, I have the wind noise or whatever you wanna call it around the top part of my windshield at high speeds and i do have a bug shield, which i did assume was the cause. I have heard mentioned that "i had the fix done" or "i took it to my dealer and they fixed it" but what did they do?

i need to replace my windshield anyway so is there something in particular I should tell the place to do to prevent this noise?

In my case, the noise was coming from the weatherstripping flapping. I ran some silicone around the outside of the window under the weatherstripping and the noise went away. Some have used doublesided tape as well. I would just do it after the new windshield.

I had this problem on my 01 Suburban. I took off the bug shield and installed a hood bra/protector when traveling. I know that the new Jeep Grand Cherokees have a TSB for the same problem with the wind noise without a bug shield and the fix is silicone sealant on the weather stripping.

Okay, thanks. I'll see how the new windshield does and if I still have the noise will try this. I have looked at the rubber around the windshield and it all seems to be tight, attached as it should, etc. so I wasn't sure if it was actually flapping or just the wind was hitting just right and making it sound like it was flapping. It's hard to hang by head out there and watch while driving 65!

I had the same noise...recently got a new windshield and mentioned it to the guy. He knew what I was talking about and fixed it for me. I am assuming he "glued" that stripping down. For the first time in my 3 years of owning this truck, I don't have that annoying noise at highway speeds!!

Awesome...I was thinking of mentioning it to the guy who installs my new windshield and seeing if he can do something like that for me when he puts it in.

I'm just wondering how the GM bug shield will affect the windshield that would cause it some flapping noise. Windshield and bug shield was very apart, I can see the connection. Can anyone explain this?

I don't know why that link shows a mud flap and is talking about bug shields but anyway...the bug shield mounts on the front part of the hood to deflect air upward. The air then hits the top part of the windshield. Mine was making a wind noise along the top. Just had a new windshield put in and the guy said the moulding at the top was sticking up but it looked factory. Nonetheless he said I shouldn't have that problem now and I haven't noticed it yet.

The noise is caused by the bug shield altering the air flow on the truck. To fix apply 3m automotive tape to the inside of the black molding that runs along each side of the windshiled.

When you buy a GM bug shield, it comes with the tape and illustrated instructions how to do that.

One alternative is to buy a low profile aftermarket bug shield, such as the one made by VentShade. It does not even reach to the top of the hood, so it would not cause any wind noise.

Beg to differ. Just installed a ventshade two weeks ago and it sounds like an angry squirrel is clawing the top of my truck off at anything over 60mph.

Went to the dealer to get it fixed under warranty and they won't cover it. They want 100 dollars to pull the trim and put 14 dollars worth of 3m tape under the trim. I laughed and walked out. I will try the silcone on my own for 3 bucks.
