Stabilizer Shock

I was doing a spring check on the work truck when I noticed the Stabilizer shock had green fluid all over the shaft. I am assuming that its a goner.

I installed Bilstein in all the four corners at 42,000 miles and came up with nothing with a replacement for the stabilizer shock.

Who makes on that is a direct replacement other than GM?

I just ordered one for my truck from Rockauto.com should be arriving today. Mine had the green fluid all over it also.

The original is made by Monroe, I'm going back with the same. The one for my truck is : MONROE Part #SC2963

I did notice that a couple other Manufacturers sold the shock, I think one was Rancho...I forget the others. Hope this helps.

Finally got a chance to install the shock and boy what a difference! The old stock one was shot. All the fluid leaked out and I was able to slide the piston in and out with ease. It's one of those things that you don't know if its bad until you remove it.

I also noticed a big difference when I replaced mine. I didn't sway as much on the freeway in a strong side wind. The steering also seems smoother, but that might be my imagination.

My shock also was leaking fluid and was easy to push the piston in.

Did you have any difficulties getting the wedge bolt out of the steering linkage ? Mine was stuck, took a hammer and chisel.

Yep the wedge bolt was a bit stubborn. What I did was I turned the wheels all the way to the left to give me a little more room to get at it. Then with a lump hammer and a few swings it fell right out.
