I would imagine the factory sets it around 98mph like most the previous trucks.

As far as I know all recent GM trucks have a speed limiter around 98 or 99.

I'm pretty sure the NBS trucks like mine and others who have tested the limit it is 89 or 90 MPH. Too slow in my opinion for a 300 HP truck. I would have much perfered the 98 or 99 limit for passing 90 is just too slow. Mine cut out at 90 passing on a two lane road the proceeded to down shift and still wouldn't go any faster. I thought there was a problem with the truck or my speedo, but it's definatly limited to 90 MPH on my 07 Sierra with the 5.3 3.73 gears 2wd truck.

The speed limiter is easily to get rid of with a tune, but the question is how fast can you go on the tires that are on the truck. It's fine and dandy if you can go 135mph, but if your tires come apart it doesn't do you any good.

how much would it cost to get rid of the speed limiter? 90 mph is too slow, 110 would be fine

youd be best off getting a custom tune to get rid of it. Going w/ a hand-held will run you about 400, getting a new PCM will be about 150.

 

You might be able to find a tool that only removes the speed limiter, but if it were me i'd just get the tune and do more.

With most states speed laws no higher than 70mph what need is there to go over 98 especially with tires rated at about 100mph. Driving that fast in a 4x4 or SUV is down right dangerous.

Bravo! Someone else with a bit of common sense... too bad many don't appreciate just how awful these things handle at and stop from those speeds. I love my trucks... but 90+ MPH travel just puts your own life, and MORE IMPORTANTLY the lives of others on the road in jeopardy. 90+MPH would be bad enough in a car for God's sake.

Hehe, I remember a few years ago on a college road trip we were driving a mid 90s Jeep Cherokee through the Seney Stretch (40 mile dead straight / level section of highway through the Seney Wildlife Refuge in the Upper Peninsula). I had it up close to 3 digits and thought the entire rig was going to vibrate apart. Mind you this was at 2 am in the morning

If you changed tire sizes thats the problem with your top speed. Check it with GPS and if you have OEM tires than have dealer correct it. The should not have an issue with any speed under the tire speed rateing.

I have oem tires and I have been to 3 different dealers all of which all 3 say the same thing there are no codes being thown and thats the way its designed and they have no way of changing it and I did check it with gps and the speedo is right
