Hard Water Spots On Brand New Vehicles Glass... :(

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Parked new Suburban(2007) at the back of a parking lot (far away to avoid door dents) only to come out later in the evening to see that a underground sprinkler system went off while vehicle was parked for the evening leaving hard water spots on the drivers side glass and mirrors.... :D Does anyone know of any effective suggestions on how to deal with removing them from the glass surfaces...??

Thanks much,

-John

If you get to them quickly, you can use Bon-Ami cleanser on a sponge. I have also used 0000 steel wool to remove water spots bby rubbing the glass lightly while holding a garden hose with a soft stream of water running over the steel wool. Don't use the steel wool on mirror surfaces that are plastic like the outside mirrors.

Thanks for the suggestions c4cruiser. I'll give the Bon-Ami a shot. I'm guessing I can pick that up at any hardware type store?

Thanks again,

Tell me you didn't try window cleaner... :D

Why not? :D

I meant I hope he DID try it first! I don't see why that wouldn't work.

50/50 solution of white vinegar and water works pretty well.

Don't waste you money on miracle cleaners. Just get a spray bottle and fill with 50/50 vinegar and DISTILLED water. You can even use this on the paint to help remove water marks.

What I do is keep a good protective coat of wax on the paint, conditioner on the plastic and rubber and coating of Rain-X on all the glass.

A little PM goes a long way to minimize spots.

Water spots have always come right off for me with regular window cleaners...As long as I'm cleaning the windows when they're quite cool to the touch and IN THE SHADE.

Same with the clay bar treatment and all the polishes and waxes I've ever used. Use them in the shade on a cool vehicle, and they work a million times better.

That's right...A MILLION!

I had this same problem on my sierra when it got hit by a sprinkler system soon after I got it. I just went and talked to my local dealership to see what they thought. They told me to just pull it around back and they cleaned it right off for free. On the side that was hit the worst they used some kind of acid that they sprayed on the window. Then he went over all the windows with a glass polish. I have never seen glass that clear in my life. I havnt used it myself but maybe you could also try ordering Zaino's Z-12 Clear-View Glass Polish.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I picked up some Bon-Ami as c4cruiser suggested on my way home from work just to have but started simple with different glass cleaners, all of which would not touch the water spots. I then proceeded to the 50/50 mix of distilled water as and white vinegar as 03blackburb and that did the trick. :D

I now have some Bon-Ami for general cleaning purpose around the house and am anxious to try it on the porcelain counter-top stove. :D

Thanks again all,

-John
