Has 112k on it. I was thinking of buying it as a weekend/plow/trailer pull truck. I have read that these engines have service lifes up to 200k. Are there any common issues I should look for, or should I say away at this high of mileage?? (I already know about teh 8.1 and oil consumption.)

They are asking $15k

It's on a CCSB.

The Chevy big block has been around for ever and I have never really heard of anyone having a problem with them. The 8.1 is a great engine with tons of power, but what really makes it is having the Allison behind it. Together they make a great towing combination.

I have a friend that has a 2001 EC 4x4 w/ the 8.1 and allison. He can pull a house off the foundation with that truck. He has had 75,000 trouble free miles.

Other side of the coin......

A co-worker had the 8.1 in a suburban 2500 and went through two motors under warranty. He says it was the worst engine he had ever seen and would never buy one again. When he traded, he went with a 2500HD truck w/ duramax/allison combo.

I've got an 02 for sale. Under 44K miles. Listed at $24K, but an offer of $21K would take it home.

This is a great combination. 340 HP, 475 lbs of torque. Just shy of diesel power for $5K less (that will buy a lot of gas).

I dont know if id pay 15k if it has that many miles. I only paid 14k for my 2001 k2500 long bed w/ 8.1 and alison tranny, mine has only 60,000 miles. I would deffinitley check kelly blue book. it may be more expensive in your area, so 15k may be the right price.
