Dead Battery On An '07 Nbs Silverado?

I've got an '07 LTZ Silverado (NBS). Unlike my previous vehicle, the power outlet stays hot when the key is out. So my Escort 8500 stays always plugged in and always on (just easier than forgetting to turn it on in the morning).

Usually the vehicle is driven every day, but this is the second time where the truck sat unused for 48 hours and ended up with a completely dead battery. No clicks, not even an attempt to turn the starter, nothing. It starts up quickly after a jump however.

The last time this happened, I took it immediately to the dealership and they told me there was a TSB out on the issue and supposedly fixed the issue.

But it happened again this weekend.

I've never had this issue in the past, even on other vehicles with "always on" outlets. Is the battery just a bad performer, are other things drawing on the battery, or is the radar detector just pulling that much?

I guess I could run a test and let it sit for a few days without anything plugged in and see what happens, but it's rare for me to go more than a day without using it.

I just don't want to get stuck at the airport one day because there's another issue.

I thought that the later model GM trucks had 'power rundown' protection that kills the power to everything if the battery goes below a certain level...thus leaving you enough power to start the vechicle.

Not sure.

I had actually unplugged the radar detector for a while (so it wasn't in for all 48 hours, probably closer to 22-24) in order to charge an iPod for an hour or so. Then, before we were getting ready to leave to head home, I plugged the radar detector back in and it powered up fine, then after a few minutes, went to a disgnostics mode and seemed stuck there.

Then, tried to turn it over and absolutely nothing.

Sounds like there's a short somewheres...or the battery is garbage.

I leave my cell phone charger plugged in all the time, and have left my iPOD on the charging dock in the truck for a week, and no issues at all.

Well, the dealership couldn't find any wiring issues, so they're replacing the battery. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this solves the issue.

These trucks do have this feature, so there must be something wrong with your truck.

Of course, an '07 Silverado is not an '07 Sierra. My Sierra has the battery rundown protection system (all trims) and it is discussed in the Owner's Manual. Check yours out.

If you have the system, then you either drew a bad battery in the big lottery of life or your rundown system is on the fritz. If the latter, it could be helping to drain the battery!

If you do not have rundown protection, my vote is for the "you rolled the dice badly" and take the new battery from the dealer and git on down the road. Let us know how you fare.

If the GMC's have it, then the Silvy would also, especially the LTZ's.
