What Makes Hypertek So Good?

when I bought my used 01 Z71 it included a Hypertek unit. After reading all the instructions and going to the website I still could not figure out what I should modify to improve performance. I took it to my local wrencher and he said it is a "piece of cake". Other than change the setting for oversize tires (285s) I don't see what it buys you. He said that you can change the shift range (whoopy). Look, I pull a travel trailer with my K1500 with tow package and am looking for more power to pull in the mountains. Other than invest in a newer Chevy or GMC diesel with more torque I think that Hyperlink is a waste of money. If you know something about what the setting should be please let me know. :banghead:

The Hypertech will improve HP/TQ, which varies depending on your vehicle. Just by installing the Hypertech, I believe one of the first options is to use the "performance tune" to get the added HP/TQ. That, combined with optional increased shift points and shift firmness, and you get a nice overall performance increase. You can't really do any advanced "tuning" with a Hypertech. It's just a Yes/No type of unit; basic, but effective.

You can find more info on their website - they normally have Dyno graphs for most vehicles.

All it does is upload a generic set of parameters.. Timing tables, shift points, etc.. They dont remove torque management either.. A custom tune is the only way to go..

Fully agree! I had one on my Tahoe and when I tried a custom tune, I immediately sold the Hypertech on ebay. Custom tune was night and day better.

All handheld programmers are garbage. Every vehicle will react different to even minor mods such as exhaust and cold air intakes makine there tune worthless. You want to do it right. LS1 Edit software people.....
