yeah let me know too cause I ordered an 07 CC VMAX but I will wait till 08 if it's anything major...What about the 6 speed tranny???? I heard they didn't use it in the 07's because the demand was so high and they didn't have enough to go around

I heard the 6 speed is being scrapped in favor of a CVT or possibly a 7 speed in early 2010 :happysad: ...seriously no 6 speed for '07 or '08. Who knows beyond that

Interesting news on the integrated brake controller on the 1/2 tons. I wonder if one can take a 2007 and add that in?

And you blame that on the number of gears? I have had 0 tranny issues on my last 2 GMC's (89 and 2000). What makes you assume the 6 spd will be more reliable?

The 4 speed is so ancient, its been around forever. The 6 speed has 2 overdrives, faster and better mpg. I have had bad luck with mine I guess even my new one isn't that great. Sometimes when I punch it to pass someone it takes a little why to downshift. And if I punch it to during acceleration 3-4th feels like the rear end is blowing out. Dealer said there is nothing wrong. I also read and been told by dealer tech and a speed shop that all the newer trucks with throttle by wire have a 5 sec delay before you get fully open throttle to avoid damage to the trans and rear end.

bout to hit 200k with my 4 speed, hasnt been abused but definately pushed. 6 speed wont help unless your motors strong enough to keep it from constantly downshifting. good for dmax, no good for 5.3 IMO, unless you live at sealevel. im all about the fuel savings, but dont know if i could deal with the constant shifting. to each his own i guess.

23 years of GM trucks in the family and the only 4 speeds were destroyed were through abuse or outright neglect (my dad destoyed one because it wasn't towed properly but it still had 150k on it and another because he never maintained it properly but it still got 130k out of it!. I don't think he ever changed the fluid)

I always get a kick out of reading the frequent posts about how reliable and great this 6 speed will be and how much junk the 4 speeds are. The ones that really make me laugh are the people that are putting off truck purchases for it! Come on!!

BTW...dealer says at least on my NBS that they are coming from the factory now with synthetic in the the 4 speeds. Maintenance intervals are now every 50k. :nono:

Posted

The one thing I do like about my old 4spd is my OD ratio is pretty good. I really never have to downshift to 3rd unless I need to goose it for some reason.

I can't believe that GM is JUST NOW putting an MP3 player in. If they were smart, they'd also put an external input jack on the front of it for iPods and other aftermarket MP3 players.

And that's coming from a guy who hates the MP3 format due to it's lossy nature.

As for a 6 speed, it would be nice to have...In my SS. It would be easier to keep in the sweet-spot of power, that's for sure.

Heck, if I'm going to dream, I'll dream big...I want a 6 speed manny tranny in there.

My 2007 with "standard" radio (no XM) has a mini-plug to hook up MP3 player.
