Trans Line Rubbing

My 07 NBS had a trans or AC line rubbing on the power steering pump resevior (SP). I m sure after 20,000 miles or so it may have been a problem. It is a metal line so I bent it slightly away from the resevior to avoid any future problems. Check yours to make sure that wasn t a problem with all of new 07 s..

When I bought my '05 Grand Prix GXP, I had to bring it back the next day with the block heater cord burning off on the rear exhaust manifold. A quick check of the others on the lot found them all with the cord in the same place! I guess stuff gets missed at the factory sometimes. :cheers:

All NBS truck and most 06 classic trucks have the same problem. Oddly enough that this came up, i put a suggestion in at work to have a spacer put in on the line to prevent premature wear and recalls. So far, nothing. If they use it, i get up to 25K as a reward.

 

Lets hope!, the Camaro wants more toys!

On these trucks...the trans cooler lines are on the PASSENGER side of the vehicle.

The power steering pump / resovoir is on the DRIVER side...

 

Explain to me more of what you see.

Out of curiosity, I just went outside and crawled around underneath my 2006 Sierra to check out this story.

1. Trans lines are secured in their clips...and are nowhere near anything.

2. All A/C lines are correctly routed...and are nowhere near anything.

3. Nothing out of place near the power steering system.

It's not the trans or Ac lines, its the power steering lines coming from the rear of the pump down to the rack. One line on some 2005/2006 models have this problem, mine does, all 07's have this problem, look on the drivers side, if yours does not have this problem, dont worry too much about it.

So, you must be talking about 1999-2007 OBS 2 wheel drive trucks, or NBS 2007 models, right??

 

Because 4x4 99-07 OBS trucks DO NOT have rack and pinion steering; they have recirculating ball steering.

I noticed the same problem with mine. Take a closer look, it's the hydraulic line from the back side of the pump to the steering rack. On mine, there is too much pressure to simply pull it away. This will definately wear a hole in either the line or the pump resevior if left alone.

 

I stopped by the dealer so they could look at it and order parts if needed. They decided to not mess with it until they can remove the line and adjust with a tubing bender. Almost due for its first oil change, said they will fix it at that time.

Is this where everyone is talking about the P/S line rubbing on the P/S Pump, :banghead:

P/S Line was lightly touching the pump, I carefully pulled the line away so it just clears the pump now!

Yep, that's the spot. Only mine is so tight there that I can't even budge the line away from the resevior. I wonder if the line is loosten if there is any rotational play to give some clearance?

Thanks for the pic BRT. Mine was snug against the pump, just had to pull it away a little.

    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling. 
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
