Rear Wiper Not Working

Recommended Posts

The rear window wiper on my 02 Suburban does not work. I have been told that the circuit board is the likely culprit. How do I remove the inside panel to get it? And, could it be another problem I should check first?

Thanks for any and all help.

You have probably done this already but did you check the fuses?

Here's a little trick for you...and this has worked for me many times.

Turn key to on.

Turn on rear wiper.

Go to the back of the truck...and give the wiper arm a little "push" with your hand. DO NOT hurt yourself...just give the motor a little help.

I betcha your wiper motor will then work..

Give it a try...

I would be willing to bet the washer fluid hose in the tailgate hinge has ruptured leaking fluid on the wires causing them to corrode. Last I saw, one of the replacement parts to correct this is on major factory national backorder. I cant remember if its the chassis side replacement connector or the jumper harness. Either way, If you have some wiring skills and the tools to rebuild the connectors (ie: terminal pliers and access to a GM terminal kit) and some heavy duty vaccuum hose you can rebuild the harness where it makes the transition from the upper roof and the tailgate. Best of luck!

I tried your idea. It almost works. The motor will make a grinding noise for several seconds, then it will rotate about 1/4 turn , then the grinding noise again. And when I install the wiper arm with the nub in the notch on the drive the wiper is way off.

Maybe the previous owner or someone tried to force it or something.

sounds like I may need a new wiper assembly.

I, too, have a barely working rear window wiper. And it does look like it could be a bad connection or bad ground because, if I turn on the window defroster, the wiper stops working completely.

Does anybody have any information on where the problem can probably be found and how to get at it?
