CRC was the first chem co. to intro a specific MAF cleaner I believe. We (CARQUEST) sell it and the part # is 05110.

Follow the instructions on the can.

You will pull the MAF off.

Spray it sparingly in short bursts.

Let is dry thorouly before plugging it back up. (this is the important piece)

Most reports from customers after cleaning the MAF is better MPG and better overall throttle response. A typical MAF on a well maintained veh is not going to be overly dirty. However, a MAF on a veh with a K & N or other oiled cotton gauze filter could possilby be very dirty from over oiling when the filter is cleaned. My guess is that most of the MAF cleaner being sold is to people with oiled cotton gauze filters. I have no proof of this, only my speculation.

I agree, however from readings, K&N and similar filters work, people just over oil them when it just takes a fine misting.

My MAF looked very clean and I clean it every year or so, use the CRC MAF spray as C&A said. Have I noticed any improvements??? well, maybe mentally seemed to have better throttle response, a tiny bit better MPG. I average 17+MPG with oversize tires and a lead foot.

Just as others say, be very careful on those tiny wires in the MAF, spray and let it dry. I use Teflon safe throttle body cleaner on the intake, I think that helps too.

Have fun.

I kept getting a P0102 DTC code on my 1999 gmc yukon 5.7L. Cleaned the K&N and oiled it. Dealer watned over $100.00 to diagnos the MAF element. Before that I will try the MAF cleaner. I have noticed a lot of garbage build up in the screen of the MAF. I must say that I hardly notice any other symptoms when I clean the filter but when the sevice engine light comes on again the shifting is bit noticable and the same code appears.

dont know if you do

but if you have an advance auto parts around they will hook up a code scanner for free

also can remove codes from your computer to see if its a memory code.

if they remove the code and it comes back the problem hasnt been fixed.. but alot of times codes will stay in your memory

oh and the whole thing about unplugging your battery yeh that doesnt remove the codes.. your computer will keep them :chevrolet:

go to aap get he cleaner and have em hook up the code reader its freee ;)

Your "cfc" maybe cheaper than our CRC. LOL :banghead:

We do have Advance in our part of the world. In fact, I pass one of their Distribution Centers located just south of Jackson, MS almost weekly. It was a Discount Auto Parts Dist Center until Advance aquired them a few years ago.

BTW, I once heard someone ask what ya'll did with your "Rs" like in "Pahhts". In case you do not know where they went, in the South we use them in our truck "winders". (windows) :chevrolet:
