2007 Silverado Z71 Questions

Well, I just pick up my truck 5 days ago and I've ordered the Kenwood DDX7019 Head Unit (7" touch screen, DVD, USB and all the gadgets), and will be getting the NAV system to go with it. I think I read on here to remove the stock radio to just start in the upper right corner and carefully pull out and work your way around, can anybod verify this? Pictures would be great if anybody has any. I have the bench seat in the front so no center counsel, all pictures and everything I find shows a center counsel in the removal. Also, I'm not sure if I remove the stock radio will the Onstar still work or will I need some sort of extra wire harness to retain that. Thanks for any help anybod can provide.

I think you will need the special harnees. The GM LAN adapter?

Removing the trim around the radio is as you've described. That's how I removed mine.

 

You are going to lose Onstar without some special harness adapter unit. I believe PAC makes one. There are other companies that do as well. A place to look would be crutchfield.com.

 

You will also lose your warning chimes and turn signal sounds.

 

If you have steering wheel controls, you will lose those. Again, there should be adapters/harnesses to satisfy those issues.

 

You will also loose the time delay from key off to door open, where the radio continues to operate.

 

Also be aware on the new trucks from GM, wire routing, even for speakers and audio equipment, can cause other systems within the truck to act up or fail. It's not as simple as it used to be. So much of the BCM is routed through the head unit circuitry so swapping the HU out requires some additional stuff to ensure it all works properly. Good luck.
