Can't Read My Gauges 2007 Denali

Can someone tell me how I can make my gauge cluster light up all the time like when the lights are on? I can't see the gauges because of the gauge color. Even during the day its hard. I pulled the plug out of the cluster to look for a wire that got 12volts when the lights came on so I can just supply voltage to it all the time to keep the cluster lights on but all I got was 1 wire hot all the time. How do they light the lights by sending a signal thru a wire or something? thanx for your help
